‘Boy Meets World’ Star Ben Savage’s Love Life Is a Mystery
No, Boy Meets World and Girl Meets World alum Ben Savage isn’t married to onscreen wife Danielle Fishel (or anyone else, for that matter). But that hasn’t stopped fans from wanting Ben and Danielle — who played Cory and Topanga on the two TV shows — to be an item in real life. “Is anyone sad that Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage didn’t end up dating or married IRL?” a Twitter user recently asked. “Like, they were so cute together.”

That said, it’s not like Ben and Danielle don’t have a romantic history! The two co-stars went out once, as the actress told the Los Angeles Times in 2013.
Ben and Danielle went on one date in the ‘90s.
In the interview, Danielle claimed responsibility for the dating rumor around her and Ben. “That rumor was entirely my fault because I once said … that Ben and I went on a date, and that turned into ‘Danielle and Ben dated,’” she said. “We went on one date, when I was about 15, and by the time the dinner was over, we realized mutually that we were more like family than lovers.”

(Ben later explained to The Hollywood Reporter’s “Off the Cuff” podcast that he blew the date because he didn’t realize it was a date.)
The two actors were also each other’s first kisses, thanks to a romantic Boy Meets World scene. “I looked over at Ben, and he had gone completely white,” Danielle recalled in a 2014THRinterview.
As for her actual love life, Danielle was married to craft beer salesman Tim Belusko from 2013 to 2016, and she’s been married to comedian Jensen Karp since 2018. She and Jensen welcomed their first child, a son named Adler Lawrence, in 2019.

Twitter users report on Ben’s dating life.
Ben keeps his private life very private, it seems. His Instagram page doesn’t appear to show any significant others — and even WhosDatedWho.com, a website dedicated to celebrities’ dating histories, comes up empty.
But Twitter users have shared gossip about Ben’s love life. “My brother’s girlfriend’s friend is dating Ben Savage from Boy Meets World and went to Topanga’s wedding,” one person tweeted in December 2013.
Or take this tweet from July 2020: “Just found out a girl I went to college with is dating Ben Savage (of Cory Matthews fame) and I am shook. I need to know how Topanga feels about this bulls--t.”

The discovery leads her to a new family, new traditions, and a new and unlikely romance over eight nights.”
Love, Lights, Hanukkah! airs tonight, Saturday, Dec. 12, at 8 p.m. EST on Hallmark Channel.
Boy Meets World’s Ben Savage Congratulates Former TV Wife Danielle Fishel on Engagement
Cory and Topanga forever! Boy Meets World alum Ben Savage sent former costar Danielle Fishel well wishes after her engagement news.
“Congratulations to my favorite TV wife on her engagement,” the 37-year-old actor captioned an Instagram photo of himself and Fishel, 36, on Sunday, March 25. “So happy for you Danielle.”
She commented on the throwback pic, “Thank you so much, Ben.”
Savage and Fishel starred as couple Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence on the beloved sitcom Boy Meets World, which ran for 7 seasons from 1993 to 2000. They briefly reprised their roles in the Disney Channel spinoff Girl Meets World, based on their daughter, Riley, which aired from 2014 to 2017.
Although the pair never dated in real life, Fishel revealed in her 2014 memoir, Normally, This Would be Cause for Concern, that Savage was her first kiss, onscreen and off. She also added to The Hollywood Reporter’s Off the Cuff podcast in July of that year that the former child stars once went on a date too, but it was very awkward.
The National Lampoon actress announced her engagement to Drop the Mic executive producer Jensen Karp on Thursday, March 22. “I woke up thinking it would be a normal day and it was anything but normal. I put on my Genghis Cohen t-shirt and went to see @jensenclan88 at work where I proceeded to screw up a very romantic marriage proposal by being too efficient (this is very on brand for me),” she captioned an Instagram snapshot of the happy couple. “The future Mr. and Mrs. Karp are now engaged and no one is more excited than I am.”
Karp, 38, also posted an adorable pic of his future wife. “We got engaged today. I don’t have anything witty or funny to say to accompany this picture. She is just the greatest person in the world and to imagine someone I went to high school with was always my person, is remarkable. You never know,” he gushed, later adding via Twitter: “We went to high school together and never shared more than a hello. Now she will be the person who continually asks me ‘Why?’ when I buy another pair of Jordans for the rest of our lives. Love you @daniellefishel.”
The author and the comedian first stepped out together as a couple in June 2017. She was previously married to Tim Belusko, but filed for divorce in March 2016 after two years of marriage.

Danielle Christine Fishel (born May 5, 1981) is an American actress, director, model, and television personality. She began her career in theater, appearing in community productions of The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan. She made her debut as an actress shortly after, making guest appearances in shows such as Full House and Harry and the Hendersons. In 1993, Fishel was cast for the role as Topanga Lawrence-Matthews on the teen sitcomBoy Meets World, which ran on ABC, and reprised the role for its successor Girl Meets World on Disney Channel, which aired from 2014 to 2017.
Fishel was the host of Style Network's The Dish, and appears in National Lampoon's Dorm Daze, as well as its sequel. She was a spokeswoman for Nutrisystem, and is also a resident reporter on PopSugar, and on their spin-off YouTube channel, PopSugar Girls Guide.
Fishel was born in Mesa, Arizona, the daughter of Jennifer, a personal manager, and Rick Fishel, former President of Masimo Corporation. She is of half Maltese descent. She graduated from Calabasas High School in Calabasas, California in 1999.
1991–1998: Career beginnings and debut
In 1991, at the age of 10, Fishel was discovered in a community theater where she performed in two productions, The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan. She quickly moved on to do voice-overs and commercials, including several as a Barbie Girl for Mattel. Soon after, she appeared on two episodes of the hit show Full House, guest starring as a character named Jennifer. She also had a small role on Harry and the Hendersons, playing Jessica. Fishel's mother became her full-time manager.
In 1993, at the age of 12, Fishel began her well-known role as Topanga Lawrence-Matthews on ABC's pilot series Boy Meets World. Originally written as a small part, Topanga became a recurring role. After a successful first year, Fishel became a show regular. Fishel's character was a sparky, intelligent girl who was mature beyond her years; she replaced the nerdy Stuart Minkus as the brains of the class. The show ended in 2000 after seven years.
Fishel was on the cover of Seventeen in December 1998. She took home a 1998 Young Star for Best Performance by a Young Actress in a Comedy TV Series. In June 1999, she was one of "The 21 Hottest Stars Under 21" as presented by Teen People. Fishel was on the cover of GQ's hottest stars to watch in GQ's 1997 October issue. She appeared in the music video for "Until You Loved Me" by Canadian music group The Moffatts.
2003–2011: Films and television presenting
Following Boy Meets World, Fishel began to work heavily in television, and in 2003 co-hosted Say What? Karaoke on MTV for one season. Fishel also appeared in several films, including National Lampoon's Dorm Daze. In 2006, she appeared in three made-for-DVD releases: National Lampoon's Dorm Daze 2 (appearing again as "Marla" from the first film), the action film Gamebox 1.0 (playing a dual role), and The Chosen One, an independent animated film in which she provides the voice of the lead female character.
In 2006, Fishel appeared as a guest on The Tyra Banks Show where she discussed her dramatic weight loss with the use of the Nutrisystems Diet. Following her appearance on the show, Fishel became a spokeswoman for Nutrisystem. She also became a special correspondent for The Tyra Banks Show, starting in early February 2007. By 2010 she had gained some of the weight back, and told People magazine she could not maintain her Nutrisystem weight.
From August 2008 to March 2011 Fishel hosted The Dish for the Style Network, which satirized pop culture in a format similar to sister network E!'s The Soup. Fishel was also on Fuse TV as host of The Fuse 20, and was a guest star on the round table on an episode of Chelsea Lately. In 2012, Fishel became the host of MSN TV's Last Night on TV.
2013–present: Current work
In 2013, though not released until 2015 Fishel starred in the drama Boiling Pot, which is based on true events of racism that occurred on college campuses across the country during the 2008 Presidential election. The film also stars Louis Gossett Jr., Keith David, M. Emmet Walsh, and John Heard. Fishel plays an average college girl, naive regarding racism and unaware of its existence. In October 2013, she was featured in Clapping for the Wrong Reasons, a short film to promote Childish Gambino's second studio album, Because the Internet.
In 2014, Fishel reprised her role of Topanga Lawrence-Matthews in the Boy Meets World spin-off series, Girl Meets World. The series premiered on Disney Channel on June 27, 2014, and features Topanga and her Boy Meets World love interest Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) married in their adult years with two children. The series follows Cory and Topanga's daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and her friend, Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) as she enters middle school and tries to navigate through life. The series ended on January 20, 2017 with Topanga declining a job offer that would have moved the family to London and out of New York.
In an episode that aired January 9, 2018, she competed against actor Jonathan Lipnicki on TBS's Drop the Mic.
At age 27, Fishel began attending California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), graduating in 2013. During her university studies, she became a math tutor, leading her to meet fellow student Tim Belusko. After over three years of dating, she became engaged to Belusko in May 2012. They married on October 19, 2013 in Los Angeles. Savage and Home Improvement cast member Jonathan Taylor Thomas were said to be in attendance at her Los Angeles wedding. In May 2016, it was reported that she had filed for divorce in 2015. The divorce was final in March 2016.
On July 4, 2017, towards the end of episode #303 of his podcast Get Up On This, Jensen Karp announced that he is now dating Fishel. On March 22, 2018, Fishel and Karp got engaged. 'Boy Meets World' Fans Will Love How Ben Savage Congratulated Danielle Fishel On Her Engagement
When the news broke that Danielle Fishel was getting married, her former on-screen husband was one of the first to send his well wishes. Ben Savage congratulated Danielle Fishel on her engagement with an Instagram post, complete with a throwback picture of the two from their time as Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence on Boy Meets World (and subsequently Girl Meets World). "Congratulations to my favorite TV wife on her engagement," Savage wrote on Instagram. "So happy for you Danielle."
The lovely sentiment and picture might have left some fans with a bittersweet feeling. Savage and Fishel played a couple on TV for a big chunk of their lives, first as the childhood friends turned the on-again-off again teenaged lovebirds turned married couple in Boy Meets World (1993–2000) and then again in the Disney reboot that centered around their daughter in Girl Meets World (2014-2017). Though their relationship had plenty of ups and downs on screen, for a lot of viewers who grew up watching them they embodied #relationshipgoals. The two were always able to talk through their problems, support each other through tough times, and they grew and changed together — a dream partnership even most of us grown-ups can aspire to. While we know Boy Meets World was a work of fiction (how the else could you explain all of the Sean's disappearing siblings), its still weird to think about Topanga with somebody else.
Still, the picture is a great reminder that the two actors worked together since they were middle school-age — and that's a very long time.
Fishel was previously married to Tim Belusko, a man she met while she was a math tutor and student at California State University, Fullerton. The two divorced in 2016. Now the actor is engaged to Drop the Mic executive producer Jensen Karp. She announced her pending nuptials on Instagram with a picture of her with Karp and the details of the day he proposed:
“I woke up thinking it would be a normal day and it was anything but normal. I put on my Genghis Cohen t-shirt and went to see @jensenclan88 at work where I proceeded to screw up a very romantic marriage proposal by being too efficient (this is very on brand for me). The future Mr. and Mrs. Karp are now engaged and no one is more excited than I am.”
And the photo was taken by her Girl Meets World co-star Sabrina Carpenter.
Karp also wrote his own Instagram post announcing the news, where he also revealed that he met Fishell in high school (not as young as Topanga and Cory, but still young). "We got engaged today," he wrote. "I don’t have anything witty or funny to say to accompany this picture. She is just the greatest person in the world and to imagine someone I went to high school with was always my person, is remarkable. You never know"
Fans also showed their love and support for the happy couple on social media, though a few did mention that they were disappointed that they weren't going to see an IRL version of Topanga and Cory's wedding. The love of their relationship runs strong.
As US Weekly points out, Fishel previously revealed in her memoir, Normally, This Would be Cause for Concern, that Savage was her first kiss. However when the two tried to go on a date once as teenagers the romantic chemistry wasn't there and it was pretty awkward. Still, their friendship was deep enough the Savage got an invite to her first wedding.
While seeing Savage in the crowd at Fischell's wedding might not be as good as him standing at the altar, we'll always have the Boy Meets World Season 7 wedding. The episodes are on Hulu right now, so you can go ahead and celebrate Fishel's happy news with a repeat viewing.

Is Ben Savage married? A closer look at Ben’s love life
Ben Savage is an American actor who gained fame for his portrayal of Cory Matthews in the ABC sitcom Boy Meets World. Savage reprised the role in the shows Disney sequel Girl Meets World. Ben was at the height of his popularity in the mid to late 90s due to his starring role in Boy Meets World.
Savage also starred in TV films such as She Woke Up (1992) and McDonald’s Family Theatre Presents: Aliens for Breakfast (1995). In 1998, Ben received critical acclaim and received an Ovation Award for his portrayal of Roddy Stern in the play, Unexpected Tenderness.
This piece will look at Ben’s sexuality and relationship history. It is unclear whether he is gay, and he is not married.
Ben’s keeps his dating life secret and it’s therefore unclear whether he is gay
Ben Savage has been in the public eye since 1988 and has rarely attracted any relationship rumors. Savage refuses to address his dating life on social media and in interviews.
There were rumors that he might be gay, but the reports didn’t have a strong foundation. The reports claimed that Ben was gay because he lived in the extremely gay-friendly neighborhood of West Hollywood. However, as Variety put it, Ben’s residence in West Hollywood didn’t confirm anything:
“We know not a thing of Mister (Ben) Savage’s private life and do not intimate or insinuate anything whatsoever about his choice of bedroom activities partners. There are, after all, scads and scores of single heterosexual men who belonged to a frat while in college living in the heart of gay gay gay West Hollywood.”
Absent a confirmation from Ben, we cannot make a conclusion about his sexuality.
Savage and his co-star Danielle Fishel went on one date, but he claims that he blew it because he didn’t know that it was a date
Savage and Danielle played each other’s love interest in Boy Meets World, and there were rumors that they were an item in real life. Danielle claimed responsibility for the rumor when she told the Los Angeles Times in 2013 that the duo went on one date in the 90s. She told the outlet that by the time the date ended, romance was out of the picture:
“That rumor was entirely my fault because I once said. That Ben and I went on a date and that turned into ‘Danielle and Ben dated.’ We went on one date, when I was about 15, and by the time the dinner was over, we realized mutually that we were more like family than lovers.”
Ben told The Hollywood Reporter that he messed up the date because he didn’t realize that it was a date. Danielle and Savage were each other’s first kisses during a romantic Boy Meets World scene. “I looked over at Ben, and he had gone completely white,” Danielle told The Hollywood Reporter.
