Sunset Dolphin Cruise

Sunset Cruise

What could be more peaceful and romantic than a beautiful sunset cruise on the calm evening waters around Hilton Head Island. Share this experience with your loved ones and create memories to last a lifetime.

During the summer months on Tuesday evenings our Sunset Cruises include a Fireworks Grand Finale.

Watching for Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin is a big part of this tour, and they nearly always abound in Broad Creek and the Calibogue Sound. Two hours gives us plenty of time to find dolphins.

Island Explorer offers one of the island's most unique sunset cruises, beginning in the calm waters of Broad Creek and touring through the scenic Lowcounty salt marsh along banks lined with pristine natural views and some of the island's most expensive real estate.

A Perfect End To Your Day

Bring along a bottle of your favorite wine, or cap off your cruise with dinner at The Old Oyster Factory Restaurant, where our boats are based.

Sunset Cruise on Hilton Head

About the Tour

This boat tour is great for all ages! With over 170 residential dolphins and around 400 nomadic dolphins passing through Hilton Head waters, it’s no wonder dolphin sightings are so much fun.

As you join us in the golden hour you will get to see a beautiful sunset over the water as well as some great wildlife. We will explore the waters around Pinckney Island National Wildlife refuge and down to Calibogue Sound in search of dolphins.

Our tour guide knows most of our local dolphins by name and will introduce you to them as we come across them. We will teach you how to tell them apart, too! Not only will you get to know the dolphins as individuals, but you will also learn about bottlenose dolphins as a species and how they adapt to our local low country ecosystem.

With this tour you will get 75 minutes to relax on the water and take in the natural sites. Our boat holds up to 24 people and sits low to the water for optimal viewing.

As we cruise around the waters we may see: Dolphins, birds such as Bald Eagle, Pelican, Great Blue Heron, Egret, Wood Stork, Spoonbill and more, Sea Turtles, Alligators, Manatees, Sharks, Sting Rays, Blue Crabs, and more.

Dolphin Watch Sunset Cruise

Sail as the Sun Sets on Hilton Head Island

Are you looking for a memorable way to spend your evening on Hilton Head? There is nothing better than a southern sunset.

No, wait … we take that back. What we meant to say was that there is nothing better than watching a southern sunset from our boat, the Holiday. Just thinking about it makes us impatient for this Hilton Head sunset cruise!

Enjoy all the sights of Hilton Head’s waterways and marshes as we cruise down Broad Creek into Calibogue Sound, connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Port Royal Sound.

You can expect to see all sorts of local wildlife including Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and various seabirds flying overhead as we cruise past private plantations, marshes, coastal homes, and more.

Take a look at the southernmost inhabited sea island in South Carolina, Daufuskie Island, with its ancient oaks, Spanish moss, and beautiful beaches. And you can’t miss the candy cane stripes of the famous Harbour Town lighthouse, a beacon to the many sailors who navigate these waters.

And of course, this dolphin tour comes with the added bonus of Mother Nature’s most beautiful (and magical) time of day. The colors of the sunset on Hilton Head will take your breath away!

Fully narrated by your captain, our Dolphin Watch Sunset Cruise will be the highlight of your vacation. Don’t forget your camera!

Your Choice of 3 Dolphin & Nature Tours

Regular sightings of marine wild life include: Osprey, Sea Turtles, Herons, Egrets, Pelicans, Cormorants, Oyster Catchers, Bald Eagles, and of course the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin. If you are a bird or nature lover, this is the tour for you!

Once onboard our dolphin tour, we will get under way in Broad Creek and watch for the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins. They live in Broad Creek year round so we see them at the dock every day, sometimes before we leave for the cruise. We encourage the passengers to keep a sharp watch for them as dolphins can hold their breath for as long as 5 minutes.

Once we find them, we cruise with them for as long as the passengers require to capture photos, ask questions, and to encounter the dolphins. Next, we will continue down Broad Creek toward Calibogue Sound. You will see beautiful homes in Long Cove, Wexford (Lock System) and Spanish Wells Plantations. This is one of the highlights of the trip. These are famous gated communities that make Hilton Head what it is today.

Normally we will arrive in Calibogue Sound about half way through the trip. There we will see the Harbour Town Lighthouse, Daufuskie Island, the Atlantic Ocean, and on a clear day, Tybee Island and the Savannah River bridge (8 miles). Our experienced captains narrate these trips.

This is a very good value as the cruise lasted about 2 hours...Captain Mark was very informative and told me lots of things that I did not know about the area and dolphins. The weather and the scenery were great. This was the second time I have taken this trip and I would absolutely do it again.

Captain Mark and Thomas were friendly, the boat was clean, and we learned things that we hadn't known before--thanks to Captain Mark's excellent and informative narration of all things HHI. We will do this boat trip again, next time with our kids.

A Beautiful Sunset Cruise

We took a sunset cruise and it could not be more happy with the experience! It was absolutely gorgeous and we saw tons of dolphins. Captain Mark is very knowledgeable. It was truly a pleasant evening!

– Bonna K. | TripAdvisor

It was just wonderful...Captain Mark was most informative about the history of the island, and the development of Hilton Head as a community. And yes, we did see several pods of dolphin, and Captain Mark gave us plenty of information.

– Martin E. | TripAdvisor

Recently took my fifth cruise with Capt Marks Dolphin Watch....I enjoy this informative and delightful cruise so much! The trip is narrated with so many facts about HHI, I am constantly amazed. The ship is very big, not fast, not scary, no motion sickness. Just a really enjoyable trip.
