Comcast phone says no line DEFAULT

no line shows up on two handsets

Hi,

Unplug the base station and any other device plugged into your telephone line.

Can you get dial tone where the line comes into the premises by connecting and using an old style corded telephone?

If you can get dial tone then perhaps the cord to the base station is faulty or the base station itself is faulty.

If you have no corded phone to use try the following:

With everything disconnected from your phone line, call your telephone number from another phone, e.g. a mobile phone .

Do you get ring tone in the phone you are using?

If so short out the line where it comes into the house and see if you 'trip' the ring, i.e. ringtone signal stops in calling phone. That will prove that the line works to there and perhaps the cord to the base station is faulty or the base station itself is faulty.

If you get ring tone but you can't trip the ring current your number is not appearing at the premises. The line may be open circuit.

If you get the engaged tone there may be a fault on the line.

If you get either of the last two results, contact your landline phone service provider about your problem. Tell them that you have disconnected all your equipment from the line so that they are aware of this when they test the line.

No phone service at all, but internet is fine.

We have had no phone service for 2.5 days at this point.  We know there's nothing basically wrong with our line as it also supports our internet connection.  We are too small to have a phone system - so its just  POTS.  We are a small business run from our home. 

This may be rare for you guys, but its actually the second time this has happened to us.  We have no backup phone service and interestingly, we've found out that there aren't pay phones in the entire area.  Our neighbors were all away for the holiday and we were/are just stuck dead.

The voip modem starts up, but doesn't link.  I have restarted (but not pulled the battery) the voip modem, pulled and reseated both the connection from the street and the connection to the phones.  Bizzarely, it turns out the comcast tech who first came out ran the single line of POTS phone wire back outside to the original hardwired NID from the local land line company.  The NID has test jacks which also have no dial tone.

I don't understand what we're expected to do - go buy a cell phone?  You guys have a whole bank of Microsoft comm servers and yet there is no way to report a problem other than a phone call?

If still not working, try plugging a corded phone directly into the modem or gateway. If that works, the problem is in your home phones or wiring. If it doesn't, something's wrong with your Comcast service.

If you can't get it working contact them at the phone number on your bill or 1-800-Comcast, or use one of the options on https://www.xfinity.com/support/contact-us/. If they can't fix the problem remotely insist that they send a tech out to identify the cause and correct it.

If the tech finds bad coax, splitters, amplifiers, or connections in your home (even if Comcast originally supplied them) you'll probably have to pay for the visit unless you have their Service Protection Plan (https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/service-protection-plan, closed to customers that don't already have it). If the trouble is due to a faulty Comcast phone modem or anything outside your home, you shouldn't be charged.

Comcast may or may not respond to your message here. If they do respond, it may take them several days.
