From Thursday, 18 June, at 1:00 a.m. AEST until Monday, 29 June, at 9:59 a.m. AEST, the Mythical Pokémon Zeraora will appear in Max Raid Battles. Zeraora won’t give you a chance to throw any Poké Balls during the Max Raid Battle, but if at least one million Trainers manage to defeat Zeraora during this special event, a Shiny Zeraora will join everyone in Pokémon HOME!
What’s more, every player who takes part will also receive a piece of Armorite Ore for every 100,000 Trainers that defeat Zeraora after the first million is reached. The maximum number of Armorite Ore pieces that can be obtained this way is 10 (achieved when two million players have defeated Zeraora). Armorite Ore can be used in the dojo on the Isle of Armor (available with the Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass) to have your Pokémon learn moves.
Gather your friends and try to defeat Zeraora!
Keep your eye on the number of stars in the top-left corner of the Max Raid Battle menu screen during this special event. Zeraora has a chance of appearing in Max Raid Battles that are three stars or more. In five-star Max Raid Battles, there’s a chance that an especially powerful Shiny Zeraora will appear!
How to claim your Shiny Zeraora and Armorite Ore
The Shiny Zeraora and Armorite Ore will be available to claim via the Mystery Gifts menu in the mobile device version of Pokémon HOME from Tuesday, 30 June, at 10:00 a.m. AEST until Tuesday, 7 July, at 9:59 a.m. AEST.
In order to claim these gifts, the following condition must be met:
- At least one million Trainers across Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield defeat Zeraora in Max Raid Battles.

How to get Zeraora in Pokemon Sword and Shield
Zeraora is one of the newest mythical Pokemon but its cool looks and strong stats make it highly sought after.
Unfortunately, as with any given mythical Pokemon, obtaining it is easier said than done. With very few exceptions, these Pokemon can only be obtained through events and The Pokemon Company does not support all regions equally in this regard.
Here’s how Zeraora has been distributed up to this point and how current owners of the mythical Pokemon can best make use of it.
Can you still get Zeraora in Pokemon in 2021?
At the moment, there is no way to obtain Zeraora in Pokemon Sword and Shield, Pokemon GO, or Pokemon HOME. As such, only players who obtained Zeraora from a previous event are able to move the Pokemon to Nintendo Switch games. It’s impossible to guess whether this will change.
The Pokemon Company has historically been very inconsistent when it comes to releasing mythical Pokemon in the video games, and even less consistent when it comes to making these Pokemon available in multiple regions. That said, Zeraora has been the centerpiece of two events in recent years.
It’s unlikely that the Sun and Moon mythical Pokemon will be made available again any time soon unless The Pokemon Company has some enormous giveaway in store for the series’ 25th anniversary.
How do you get Zeraora?
Zeraora has been the prize in two separate events in Pokemon games thus far.
In 2018, Zeraora was introduced in an in-person giveaway event where the Pokemon could be obtained varied from region to region. In North America, Zeraora could be obtained at Gamestop and EB Games retailers. In Europe, the Pokemon could be acquired by visiting specific retailers or by attending certain events depending on the country.
In 2020, Zeraora was made available again in Pokemon Sword and Shield as part of a promotional event for the launch of Pokemon HOME. The mythical Pokemon was part of a global challenge where one million players needed to defeat Zeraora, who was added to event Max Raid Dens in the wild area.
If players transferred Pokemon between either Sword and Shield and Pokemon HOME and were among the players to defeat the Max Raid Den Zeraora, they received a shiny Zeraora in their Pokemon HOME box.
Is Zeraora shiny locked?
No, Zeraora is no longer shiny locked.
A shiny version of the Pokemon could be obtained through a promotional event in 2020 for players that both played Pokemon Sword and Shield and used Pokemon HOME. Legitimate shiny Zeraoras have an OT named “HOME” with the Trainer ID 200630, are Hasty by nature, and will have a Classic Ribbon.
Is Zeraora any good?
Zeraora is a mythical Pokemon and therefore has 600 total base stats, comparable to “pseudo legendary” Pokemon like Dragonite, Tyranitar, and Metagross. Unlike early mythical Pokemon, Zeraora’s stats aren’t evenly distributed.
This is a good thing, as Zeraora’s stats make it a strong sweeper thanks to high attack stats and a strong 143 base speed. Zeraora’s movepool is relatively limited when it comes to both regular and special attacks, but it has enough diversity that players can cobble together something solid.
The clear best build for Zeraora includes a Jolly nature and maxed EVs for attack and speed. For moves, Volt Switch, Plasma Fists, Close Combat, and either an elemental punch move or Knock Off offers some hard hits and decent type coverage.

Pokemon Sword and Shield: How To Get Zeraora, Including The Shiny Version
Isle of Armor, the first expansion for Pokemon Sword and Shield, is out now (with The Crown Tundra coming later this year).
Zeraora, one of the expansions most powerful new additions, is a Pokemon you'll want to add to your Pokedex and collection. Here's how.
How to get Zeraora in Isle of Armor DLC
Zeraora can only be found in Max Raid Battles from yesterday, June 17, to June 28.
Zeraora can appear in three-star raids and above, so be on the lookout.
If one million players beat Zeraora in Max Raid Battles, you'll even be able to claim a shiny version in the Mystery Gifts menu. You'll need to have transferred a Pokemon to or from Pokemon Home to enable this though!
Good news, trainers! Shiny Zeraora will be sent to all players, but you'll need to use Pokemon Home on mobile to get it. You'll find it in the mystery gift menu up until July 6 at 4:59 PM PDT.

While Zeraora is appearing in Max Raid Battles throughout Pokemon Sword and Shield right now, you can’t actually catch it right now.
Even if you do manage to defeat the Thunderclap Pokémon and complete the raid, there is no prompt to throw a Poké Ball. Instead, you will be sent straight to the reward screen before exiting the raid altogether.
This is similar to the Mewtwo limited-event that set the standard for this type of Max Raid Battle, where the challenge is very high, but you don’t actually get the payoff of capturing a Legendary Pokémon.
Just because you can’t catch Zeraora right now, however, it doesn’t mean you can’t still obtain one. In fact, Game Freak has already said that if enough people complete the limited-time raid, every player will receive a free Shiny Zeraora for their time.
Zerora is set to continue appearing in Max Raid Battles until June 28, which is the cutoff for the event and when Game Freak will tally up the numbers. If more than 1 million trainers have Zeraora defeated, a Shiny Zeraora will be distributed through Mystery Gift after the conclusion of the event.

Outside of that, you will need to transfer the Electric-type in from Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon using Pokémon Home. But if you didn’t participate in the old distribution event or don’t have access to the 3DS titles, you will need to wait for a little bit for a chance to claim Zeraora.
