Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT Keyboard

If you are familiar with Corsair’s keyboards, the K55 RGB Pro XT is packaged just like their other keyboards. It is packaged in a black and yellow box with an overview picture of the keyboard on the front. If that isn’t enough, on the back they provide a quick list of the standout features.

Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT Keyboard Accessories

In addition to the keyboard, Corsair has included the standard user manual and warranty guide. The only other piece of hardware is the removable wrist rest which snaps into the bottom edge of the keyboard.

Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT Keyboard USB Cable

Many keyboards are now using removable cables, the K55 RGB Pro XT has an attached USB Cable. While this isn’t a big issue, some users like to use a custom USB cable or have the option to replace the cable if it gets damaged. The USB Cable has a tangle free rubber coating so that helps. Corsair did not include a USB pass-through port on the K55 RGB Pro XT.

Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT Keyboard With Wrist Rest

With the wrist rest attached, the Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT looks very much like a standard keyboard. There are a few exceptions, down the left side there are six extra keys, and above the number pad are some additional keys; both of these extra key groupings we will take a closer look at. The keycaps have a rubber texture to them, which gives them a bit of a soft feel. The letters on the keycaps are right in the center of the keycap, the font used for the K55 is clear and easily readable.

Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT Keyboard

The bottom of the keyboard isn’t very exciting, the standout feature here is the two elevating feet in the corners these do not have any anti-slide rubber on the elevating feet. However there are two anti-slide rubber pads at the front edge of the keyboard and three on the wrist wrest. Also, if you do not use the elevating feet, there are two anti-slide spots next to the feet.

Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT Keyboard Media Keys

The first grouping of extra keys is on the top right corner of the K55 RGB PRO XT, for the most part these keys are for media control. You have the three standard volume, stop, back, play/pause and forward buttons. In addition, at the very top of the keyboard are three extra keys, not related to the media control keys. The “M” button is a macro recording button, “C” controls the RGB LED brightness and the lock is the Windows key lock.

Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT Macro Keys

If you have iCUE running, you need to use that to create macros. However, if you prefer to use the keyboard without iCUE, you can still create macros, the downside to this is that they are then stored on the keyboard, which can be both good and bad depending on what you use them to do. This is Hardware mode, and you are limited to 50 keypresses, which includes shift, enter and space. As you record the keystrokes without an interface, it records it exactly as you type it; including mistakes. In addition to the standard macro recording function the “G” macro keys are compatible with Elgato Stream Deck, which will need to be installed to use the keys with streaming capabilities.

One other function that we haven’t mentioned is controlling the RGB lighting in Hardware mode, meaning without iCUE. Using the FN key with 1-0, you can select from 10 various lighting effects, control the speed or rotation of the lighting effect.

Let’s take a look at Corsair’s iCUE 4 application and see what it can do for the K55 RGB Pro XT Gaming Keyboard.

Important update on our delivery service for small items

Our courier partners (DPD, Royal Mail and On the Dot) have all updated their delivery processes to take extra precautions due to Coronavirus (COVID-19). Please follow the below advice:

1. Customers can use the DPD app to nominate a ‘safe place’ for their delivery to be left if they do not want close contact.

For customers unable to use the DPD app, DPD is still able to offer a contact-free delivery and will take a picture of the property and capture a proof of delivery name instead of capturing a customer signature.

2. Royal Mail is an unsigned service. Where Royal Mail needs to deliver a parcel, its teams will place the parcel at the customer’s door. Having knocked on the door, the delivery teams will step aside to a safe distance while the item is retrieved. If the delivery cannot take place, Royal Mail will take the parcel to the local depot for collection by the customer.  The parcel will be held for 18 days as per normal process.

3. For On the Dot, where a standard signature delivery is not possible, On the Dot will attempt to leave the parcel in a safe place and inform the customer of where the parcel has been placed.

To see the courier partner for your delivery, please check your dispatch confirmation email (which will also include your tracking reference).

Corsair K55 RGB Gaming Keyboard Keyboard Review

The Corsair K55 RGB Gaming Keyboard is a decent full-sized gaming keyboard that uses rubber dome switches, which don't offer the same tactile feedback as mechanical switches found on most gaming keyboards. It has six extra macro keys, and since each key is macro programmable, you can customize it to your liking. The keys are stable, but they feel heavy to type on, and you may experience fatigue when typing for long periods. It has zone-lit RGB backlighting if you want to use it in the dark, but you can't change the lighting on a per-key basis. It should be fine enough for casual gamers, but it might disappoint some more serious or competitive gamers.

Our Verdict

The Corsair K55 is only decent for gaming as its rubber dome switches require a fair amount of force to operate, resulting in less responsive-feeling keys. On the other hand, it has very low latency, zone-lit RGB lighting, six dedicated macro keys, and all of its keys are programmable.

  • Every key is macro-programmable.
  • Keys feel heavy to type on.
  • Only adequate build quality.

The Corsair K55 is only a decent keyboard for office use. The keys feel heavy to type on and could get tiring, but they feel stable, and there's decent space between each one which helps reduce typos. The Corsair K55 has good ergonomics and comes with a comfortable wrist rest. It's also quiet to type on, which is great for an office environment.

  • Fully compatible with Windows; partially compatible with macOS.
  • Keys feel heavy to type on.
  • Only adequate build quality.

The Corsair K55 is passable for programming use. Each key is macro-programmable, and it has zone-lit backlighting, but the typing quality is mediocre, and you may experience fatigue when typing for long periods as the keys require a fair amount of force to operate. That said, it has good ergonomics and comes with a comfortable wrist rest.

  • Every key is macro-programmable.
  • Fully compatible with Windows; partially compatible with macOS and Linux.
  • Keys feel heavy to type on.
  • Only adequate build quality.

The Corsair K55 is bad for entertainment or home theatre PC use. It's a full-sized keyboard that takes up a considerable amount of space, especially with the wrist rest attached, and it can't be used wirelessly. Thankfully, it does have media keys, but while it does have backlighting, it's zone-lit only. It also lacks a trackpad, so you'll need a dedicated mouse to move your cursor.

  • Every key is macro-programmable.
  • Keys feel heavy to type on.
