Top Pcmac Reviews

  • Junk - Could be much better if they tried

By Liam and Corey Co. (Pcmac user)

To add to my prior review. Now I can’t figure out how to add favorites; that functionality seems to have gone. Also why have they changed the color of the Gladstone branch to be the same as Dover! Who would have believed they could actually have made this awful App even worse!! Original Review follows -There a myriad of problems with this app. Some seem to have been fixed, others not. Here are some that remain: There are no maps. The schedules are clearly not fed from the same database as website - they direct you to the website for service changes. There are no alerts on the app. - you need to go to website for those. They display train numbers in the schedules section, it would be logical if this were a "hot link" but it's not. Some trains simply do not appear in departure vision at all (on an intermittent basis). To sum up - it feels like "they have an app. so they can say they have an app." but they don't really seem to care that it is a crap app!! Update - while cancelled trains show up as “cancelled” on Departure Vision they don’t on the Schedules. This is trivial stuff to fix. Also the customized alerts feature is really poorly thought out. Do they care - absolutely not?

  • New App is very difficult to use- Monthly passes won’t load without internet

    By Sassyjerseygrl (Pcmac user)

The old app would allow already activated single ride and monthly passes to be displayed when no internet. This is a MUST for areas where there is no cell service. Like Penn Station etc. It also constantly logs you out which of course you can’t display your pass when you are logged out and no internet to log in. Old app- put device in airplane mode - pass would display instantly if activated like a monthly. I never know when I will be logged out and have a train staff member standing waiting for me to display even when the app was already loaded when I was on the platform. If it’s loaded on your device for too long before needing to display - oops logged out again. Flash error. Needs to re log in with Face ID - hope you have data. Also Secaucus doesn’t show up in rail schedules.

  • Finally! Brightness control has been achieved!

    By Les S (Pcmac user)

You’ll get 5 stars when the passes are available in the wallet. If you ever make the pass available on the Apple Watch I will personally petition Apple to give me the option of assigning you 6 stars!!! In all seriousness a much improved app. It’s nice seeing you guys embrace competence. And I can barely believe the words I’m about to write but … I actually enjoy using the app now as opposed to cursing the devils that put me through countless conductor eye-rolls as I would try in vain to show them my monthly pass.

  • 1 start

    By tylittle1982 (Pcmac user)

I gave this app 1 start caused it crashed after the update causing me to pay someone for a ride to work. Old version was working just fine and now I keep getting a error message about my login info😩😡

NJ TRANSIT Online Student Pass provides full-time undergraduate and graduate students with a 25% discount on already discounted monthly passes for NJ TRANSIT bus, rail and light rail systems.

Is this program for any undergraduate or graduate student in New Jersey?

No. Colleges and universities must join the Student Pass program first before students can buy a Student Pass online.  For a list of the participating colleges and universities, go to njtransit.com and click on ‘Student Savings’ under ‘Tickets’.

Are all students able to buy a Student Pass?

Full-time undergraduate and graduate students at participating institutions are eligible. (Monmouth University is a participatinginstitution)

  2. Login to NJ TRANSIT with your student (.edu) email and the password
  3. Verify your full-time status and student email address

No. NJ TRANSIT suspends every Student Pass account at the end of May.  Students who want to buy a Student Pass during the summer months or want to reactivate their Student Pass account in the fall can do so through online account management.

Can I suspend my account at any time?

Yes. You can suspend your account through the online account management tools.

Do students at non-participating schools receive a student discount?

Students who attend accredited colleges/post-secondary schools where online Student Pass sales are not yet available, can obtain a discounted rail monthly pass by going to any NJ TRANSIT ticket window to pick up a paper form. The discount for students of accredited non-participating schools is 25% off rail monthly passes only – not bus or light rail passes.

It’s important to remember:

  • Download the NJ TRANSIT app
  • Open the app and tap BUY
  • Sign in with your .edu email and password

Students who participate in this program agree that the monthly pass is for their exclusive use only. Each student is eligible to receive one discounted monthly pass per month. Passes are non-transferable. Any abuse or purposeful deception will result in the cancellation of the student’s monthly pass account, and (s)he will be unable to participate in the program in the future. This will also apply to any other student who is knowingly involved.

How to Get to Newark Airport on Public Transit

Here are details about getting to the Newark airport from New York City using public transit.

If you’re coming from...

  • Midtown Manhattan: Take an NJ Transit train and the AirTrain.
  • Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn, and you don't mind a couple of transfers: Take the PATH, an NJ Transit train, and the AirTrain.
  • Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn, and you want to keep it simple: Take the subway to Midtown Manhattan and transfer to an NJ Transit train and the AirTrain.
  • Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn, and you want to save on fares: Take the PATH train to Newark Penn Station and transfer to an NJ Transit bus.

Tips

  • NJ Transit train service is not 24/7. Trains run between 6 a.m. and midnight. For 24-hour service, take the PATH train and NJ Transit's #62 bus.
  • NJ Transit’s app is the best way to buy tickets: Download it on your iPhone or Android phone before you go.
  • AirTrain, NJ Transit, and PATH are not operated by us. We’ve done our best to make this information accurate, but you should double-check NJ Transit's site before you go.

Option 1: Take an NJ Transit train and the AirTrain

Fare: $15.25 for most riders.

This is generally the quickest route from NYC, especially if you're near Midtown Manhattan. NJ Transit estimates travel time from New York Penn to Newark airport at around an hour, but allowing extra time doesn't hurt.

1. Take an NJ Transit train from New York Penn Station to Newark airport.

Some trains on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line lines stop at Newark Liberty International Airport Station. Look for an airplane icon or "EWR" on the departure boards. Not all trains on these lines stop at the airport, so double-check.

Buy a ticket at a vending machine or ticket counter. Keep track of your ticket during your ride because you'll use it again to get on the AirTrain.

When you arrive at Newark International Airport Station, follow signs for the AirTrain.

See details on NJ Transit’s trip planner.

2. Take the AirTrain from Newark Liberty Airport Station to your airport terminal.

The AirTrain connects with all terminals, plus parking, rental car, and hotel services. It's free to use within the airport.

Allow 15-20 minutes to get to your airport terminal from the train station.

Details about fares

NJ Transit tickets to and from the airport include the fare for the AirTrain. Otherwise it costs $7.75.

You can buy a ticket onboard the train, but there is a surcharge and you’ll need to pay for the AirTrain separately. Conductors only accept cash.

Option 2: Take the PATH train, an NJ Transit train, and the AirTrain

Fare: $13.50 for most riders.

1. Take the PATH from World Trade Center Station to Newark Penn Station.

World Trade Center Station is in Lower Manhattan. The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, E, R, and W subway lines all have stops nearby.

Fulton Center connects directly to the PATH station. From the lower level of Fulton Center, follow signs for the PATH. You'll exit the subway fare area on your way.

2. Transfer to an NJ Transit train at Newark Penn Station.

Trains that stop at Newark Airport Station are on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line lines. Look for an airplane icon on departure boards or check with an NJ Transit agent if you need help.

Allow yourself extra time at the station to buy NJ Transit tickets. Hang onto your ticket, because you’ll show it again to get on the AirTrain.

3. Transfer to the AirTrain at Newark Airport Rail Station.

The Airtrain serves all airport terminals as well as parking, hotel, and rental car services.

Allow 15-20 minutes to get from the the train station to your terminal.

Details about fares

PATH fares are $2.75. You can buy a PATH single-ride ticket, or pay with a SmartLink card or a MetroCard.

NJ Transit fare from Newark Penn Station to the airport is $10.75.

The fare for the AirTrain is normally $7.75, though it is included in your NJ Transit ticket when you're going to and from the airport.

Option 3: Take the PATH train and an NJ Transit bus.

Fare: $4.35 for most riders.

This is an accessible trip.

2. Transfer to the #62 or #67 NJ Transit bus at Newark Penn Station.

Only the #62 bus runs 24/7. After leaving Newark Penn Station, head toward Raymond Boulevard to find the bus lanes.

Details about fares

Fare for the PATH train is $2.75. Fare for NJ Transit buses is $1.60.

This is your most cost-effective option. It's also a good choice if you’re traveling when NJ Transit trains aren’t running overnight.

Awesome customer service

My heart sank when I accidentally overwrote my account due to one of those annoying tech upgrades on iPhone! I was on a train from NYC to my hometown for Christmas and couldn’t remember my password to any of my app accounts including my personal email 😰. I had about 20 one way tickets saved in my profile history. I found a phone number and spoke with Pam after the holiday. Patiently she troubleshooted the account and was able to reactivate the old account finding my history! Great way to end the year! Thanks Pam! 🙏🏼🌺

New version looks nice but WONKY and nonsensical.

The new version of the app looks nice and modern. But it’s very annoying that my monthly pass pops up instantly when clicking “my tickets” because i actually have other tickets! Also it displays horizontally, which is annoying because I never asked it to rotate. If the ticket wants to display horizontally to distinguish a monthly from a single use, fine, but the functions should still remain at the bottom because I’m not holding my phone sideways, I’m holding it vertically. It’s very frustrating when trying to close the monthly pass to continue using the app or display another ticket.
Also, the new version’s “schedule” feature got rid of displaying if a route has transfers on the results screen. I almost stayed on a train that had a transfer to get to where I was going because you have to CLICK the route to see wether or not you need to transfer to a different line or not. The old version said wether or not a route had transfers or not up front. It’s very misleading because I want to avoid trains with transfers if I can, and people who are new to NJ transit will for sure stay on a train instead of transfer if they don’t click to expand the route info because they’re under the impression there are no transfers if It doesn’t say so up front. Please bring that feature back. Everything else is fine I guess.

Crashes

New version needs some fixing regarding how we log in. Why do we constantly need to put in our password except for when we’re using stored credit cards? And this new version doesn’t work well with saved passwords on the iPhone - I use Touch ID to retrieve my stored password and it deletes my email. In general I love being able to buy my tickets via an app and the new design seems fine. Major issue that persists in this version: I need to open the app when I first get on the train in Penn Station but because of limited connectivity I often have trouble. The app should be able to show active tickets without connectivity. It used to be fine in that regard but a few updates ago it became an issue. Conductors get very frustrated when the app isn't open and running but that is very often not the fault of the riders. (That's another customer service issue - many of the conductors are outwardly hostile about the app - they need to learn to adapt but I believe that would be enabled if the app were set up such that it doesn't make their jobs harder. ) Just this morning I had the app open just fine. Conductor came around 5 mins later and it had kicked me out so he had to come back.
