Ross enters the bedroom and finds Rachel and Bonnie there. He then decides to resume his relationship with Rachel and break up with Bonnie. Rachel writes him a letter in which she tells him about her feelings about resuming their relationship, which ultimately turns out to be just a request that Ross take full responsibility for their breakup. Which he refuses, and they quickly separate. Phoebe learns that the other Phoebe is actually her birth mother, and tells her twin sister Ursula who hints that she knew from the start.

Phoebe agrees to be the surrogate mother to the children of her half-brother Frank and his - barren - wife Alice. The embryos conceived by in vitro fertilization are implanted in Phoebe's uterus, who becomes pregnant with triplets.

Chandler meets a girl named Kathy who is dating Joey. The latter - who take the same drama classes - go their separate ways after Kathy kissed Chandler, while Joey was out. The relationship between Kathy and Chandler does not last very long because Chandler shows a sick jealousy.

Ross and Rachel start dating other people. Rachel meets Joshua at her work and manages to get invited to a party. However, she had to go to the opera with her boss's niece, a British girl named Emily. She persuades Ross to accompany Emily to the opera so that she can go to her party. Ross and Emily fall in love with each other and start dating. Their relationship, which was to end when Emily returned to England, continues despite the distance. Emily even leaves her English boyfriend for Ross. The latter suffering from their separation, decides to ask for Emily to come and live with him in the United States.

Rachel is dating Joshua but cannot come to terms with Ross's marriage. She talks to Joshua about marriage when they've only seen each other a few times and scares him so much that they go their separate ways. Ross and Emily's wedding takes place in London, but Rachel decides not to go. Phoebe also has to stay because she is pregnant with the triplets. However, at the last minute, Rachel realizes that she is still in love with Ross and decides to go to London to tell him. She arrives for the wedding but does not dare to confess her feelings. His appearance still disturbs Ross, who has the wrong first name during the ceremony: he says Rachel instead of Emily.
