Power Armor locations in Fallout 76

Since all Power Armor parts are items left in the open world, they are free for anyone to take. You can wait for them to respawn but knowing where to find them in the first place is half of the battle.

Below are some locations of interest should you want your own set of Power Armor. Most of them are found near Power Armor Stations but there are a few that are on deceased Brotherhood of Steel soldiers. All of the locations are separated by region into multiple tables below. To see if there is Power Armor in your location, type the location name using the search bar for each table.

 The Forest

LocationDirections to Power Armor
Aaronholdt HomesteadFound in the far north-west of the region, the Power Armor is close to the border between The Forest and the Toxic Valley. The Power Armor is found near a few farmhouses and sheds. On the eastern side of the location, there is a granary silo and shed. The shed by the road houses the Power Armor Frame. You'll need to be able to lockpick or to find the corresponding key. The key is found near an awning on the north side, which has a body in it.
Black Mountain Ordnance WorksInside the locked down interior areas north-east of the Ordnance Works. Requires the relevant key which is found near TNT Done #3. This area houses the Nuka-Cola branded Power Armor.

Fallout 76 Power Armor tips

When you come across a Power Armor Frame, you should take it. These are often found next to Power Armor Stations. When you find Power Armor, you can lock the frame to you quickly by removing all the Power Armor parts, then entering the frame.

Equipping any Power Armor gives you a strength bonus, some resistance to damage, and total immunity to fall damage. If you want to know all the stats for all of the Power Armor variants, including the perks that some of the parts grant you, head to our Fallout 76 weapons guide.

Just be sure to stock up on Fusion Cores. Power Armor guzzles fusion energy like modern mobile phones guzzle battery power. Should you should run out of juice, Power Armor will just weigh you down: your speed is reduced dramatically and you won't be able to use the torch or V.A.T.S. To get more fusion cores, either craft them at your CAMP or find Fusion Core Generators at larger named locations on the map.

Fallout 76 guide series

That is everything you need to know about Fallout 76 Power Armor. There are many guides listed below for the game, detailing things like what each perk card does and what you need to craft certain weapons. We also have some dedicated guides to the new stuff that appeared in the Wastelanders expansion:

One of the best things about the newer games in the Fallout series is that you get to wear power armor. In both Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 you are able to don the most powerful protective gear in the game. But in 76 it is arguably even better as you can wreak havoc on your online buddies/opponents. To do that though you first need to know where to find the armor.

All Power Armor Locations in Fallout 76

Even though armor will always show up at these places, they are subject to random spawn times. So, if you rock up at one of the points mentioned and think your game has glitched then don't worry. Just check back at a later time and the armor will pop up at some point.

Aaronholt Homestead

along Route 94 you will find this homestead. You will notice a Shed situated by some grain silos and a power generator. You can attempt to pick the lock but if that's a no go you will need to pilfer the key from a nearby body. Once unlocked you will be able to grab the power armor.

Arktos Pharma

Arktos Pharma can be found East of Route 59 and North of Route 86B. When you approach it you will see a garage on the left hand side. You will need to access this area through a gap in the roof, so traverse the buses and stairs to reach the building and then hop on down. Find the computer terminal and hack it (it's a level zero so is quite easy) and you will reach the armor locked behind the door.

Belching Betty

This location will be East of Camden Park. Head to the Burning Mine on the East side of the Ash Heap to find the power armor situated here.

Billings Homestead

Directly below Silva Homestead and North of the Nuka-Cola Plant is Billings Homestead. Head just North of Billings Homestead until you reach a Shed and some Grain Silos, the power armor will be in the shed.

Black Bear Lodge

This armor is North West of the Palace of the Winding Path and not too far from Route 96. Upon reaching Black Bear Lodge you will encounter a Barn that has been struck by a tree near the big building. You will find the armor inside that barn.

Camp Venture

Along Route 65 and North West of the RobCo Research Lab you will find Camp Venture, holding some power armor in the yard.

Follow Route 61 up past Grafton Dam, and at the end of the road you will find Clarksburg. There will be a tall building with a fire escape attached which isn't accessible from the ground. Make your way behind it and you will see a barricade which reads “Man Before Machine”. Go up the stairs and around the roof to the right and you see the fire escape from before. Head up another floor and you will find the power armor.

Drop Site V9

Not to be confused with Drop Sites C2 and G3, you will find Drop Site V9 further below on the map to the South. You will find the armor directly in the drop site. Make sure to head on over to Survey Camp Alpha as well to the West of V9 to grab some more armor.

Eastern Regional Penitentiary

of previously mentioned Clarksburg and West of Grafton Dam you will find the penitentiary infested by Super Mutants. There is a level warning for this one as it can be quite tough. Head around the back and enter through the hole in the wall, then make your way to the building located in the Center of the yard. In there you will find the armor.

Hornwright Industrial Headquarters

For this power armor you will need to commence a mission called The Motherlode. If you head to Charleston which is South over the river from Route 59 you should trigger the mission start. After accessing some key cards during the mission you will find the armor at the bottom of some stairs. You shouldn't miss it.

Morgantown Trainyard

of Morgantown and South West of Morgantown Airport you will stumble upon the Trainyard. Look for a watch tower on the West side that is between two warehouses. There will be a Green Army Surplus Carriage located just in front and in there you will obtain the power armor.

Kanawha Nuka-Cola Plant

of Charleston and North of Camden Park you will find the behemoth which is the Nuka-Cola Plant. It will literally stick out. Enter then building after some lock picking and search for the Basement, then for a large room containing a crane that's yellow. There will be some power armor situated in the corner.

Point Pleasant

South West
of good ol' Vault 76 you will come across Point Pleasant and the Mothman Museum. The 'M' of the Mothman sign is a good indicator of where you should head to. There will soon after be a Green Pharmacy, situate that on your left and go up the stairs. You will encounter another building with a smashed wall. Enter the building and go through to the other side. On your left there will be stair access to the roof, follow this. Next look for a wooden path atop a bridge, traverse this and when you encounter a fork in the path, take the right hand turning. Peak downwards and to the right to see a Red Sofa with some power armor near it.

Poseidon Energy Plant WV-06

North East
of the Nuka-Cola Plant you'll find the Energy Plant. Once there head for the largest building that has Blue Pipes, three doorways and army vehicles outside. Enter the building and head down the stairs straight ahead. Continue round the corridor and you will find a room with a Workbench along with the desired power armor.

Silva Homestead

of the Nuka-Cola Plant look for a round barn that has a Red Tractor indoors. The power armor will be in a frame towards the back of the barn.

Striker Row

Head to Red Rocket Filling Station just below Mount Blair and pick up some power armor that's in there. Then go further South to find Striker Row. Look for a rock alcove close to road barriers and you'll find a second piece of armor in the fresh air (or as fresh as the post-apocalyptic wasteland can be!)

The Crosshair Cave

Go further North from Aaronholt Homestead and you will encounter the peaky Crosshair range. Find the cave nestled in this area (it is actually unmarked) and you will find Raider power armor within.

Wade Airport (x2)

Wade Airport is very near to Charleston. There are two pieces to be found here so make sure you get them both! Head to a hangar that is by the Flight Tower at the Northern end of the runway and you will find armor in the hangar. Next, go to the Southern end of the runway and search for a Blue Trailer, this will also include some armor within. The door does require a level 2 lockpick skill but is pretty easy to get into.

of Drop Site V9 you will encounter Watoga, look for a crashed Vertibird. Next to it you will find some power armor just laid out on the floor. Also check the Emergency Building close by to find some more on the roof.

WV Lumber Co.

Slightly lower East of the Crosshairs is where WV Lumber Co. is located. Inside the Lumber Mill you'll find the power armor, but not before you encounter some Super Mutants.

There you have it! All of the locations to get power armor so that you can be suited up with the best gear for your travels along the Appalachian wilderness.

Fallout 76 Wiki Guide

It's important to note two things: The person who claims the armor first gets to keep it. After you enter the frame, nobody else can steal it from you, even if you leave the suit of armor - it will belong to you, and even teleport back into your inventory if you leave it alone for a few minutes.

If you're trying to find a Power Armor Frame at a low level, you may find you are unable to enter due to the level restrictions of the armor attached to the frame. Circumvent this by manually transferring the armor plates into your inventory, leaving just the frame and the Fusion Core that powers it, and you'll be able to fully interact.

Remember - Fusion Cores are important. They power the suit, allowing you to run, use VATS and make full use of its abilities. Without power, you'll be forced to a crawl, and will likely have to stow the frame in your inventory until you find more power - which you can either craft, or even find in forgotten Fusion Core Generators found at larger buildings.

Finding Power Armor in Appalachia

Video Guide: 6 Easy Power Armor Locations in The Forest

There are many places that Power Armor Frames can spawn in the world, and it's possible that another player might get to it first, or it may just not have spawned into the world just yet, so if you come to an area and don't find anything, you might find it later on.

See below for locations we have confirmed finding Power Armor on multiple occasions:

Morgantown Warehouse Power Armor

If you're on your way to Morgantown to complete the quest Final Departure, you may want to stop off at this abandoned building. In it, you'll find a set of Power Armor just sitting there, waiting for you to collect it! When we located this set the building was under the protection of two three Protectron, but your mileage may vary.

The Power Armor is tucked away in a corner, meaning if you simply run straight through you may miss it. Enter through the front door and proceed into the second section of the warehouse by running straight ahead. Remove any armor pieces that are too high level for you at that moment, then hop in and do some damage!

Aaronholt Homestead Power Armor

This place is a Location in the far Northwest of Appalachia near the border between The Forest and the Toxic Valley.

The location is comprised of a few farm houses and garages, as well as a large field on the east side with a granary silo and shed.

Upon inspecting the shed by the road, you may be able to see a Power Armor Frame inside the shed next to the Power Armor Station. However, the door to the shed is locked, and you can either equip a Perk Card for lockpicking - or find the key that opens it.

One of the Aaronholt family holds the key, and his body is actually nearby. Cross the farm field to the sloping hills on the north side, and you should see an open awning that may be surrounded by Bee Swarms and a hive. Below the awning is a bathtub, where lies the body of Lowell Aaronholt, holding his favorite guitar - an more importantly - the key to the shed.

Grab the key and fight off the Bee Swarms, then return to unlock the shed and claim your prize!

Point Pleasant Power Armor

This location is within the western forest region of Appalachia, home to the world famous Moth-Man Museum!

If you plan on hunting down the Moth-man during your time in the wasteland, you're going to need some fire-power. Luckily if you find yourself in Point Pleasant you wont have to go to far to find it! Once inside Point Pleasant look for the store with the sign "Bernardo's", it will have a green rusted truck out front.

Hop on top of the truck, then on to the black canopy at the front of the car to gain access to the buildings roof. Once you clear out any Scorched take the staircase pictured on the right.

On top of that roof, you will see a bridge made of plywood, walk across it then take the RIGHT path. Your new power armor will be at the end of that bridge, along with some sweet loot!

WV Lumber Co Power Armor

If you travel to the far Northwestern corner of the map you can find a lumber mill that's fiercely guarded by Super Mutants. Check the large shed closest to the train tracks that run by the lumber mill, and you may find a suit of Power Armor waiting among a few Power Armor Stations.

Kanawha Nuka-Cola Plant Power Armor

Players have reported finding a Power Armor Frame within the Kanawha Nuka-Cola Plant, which is located along the rivers in the Southwest edge of The Forest, to the west of the Poseidon Energy Plant WV-06.

The suit itself is located within the confines of the plant's interior, and players may have to lockpick the doors leading into the plant or find a key - more information will be available as we confirm

Eastern Regional Penitentiary Power Armor

This area, located just south of Grafton, features a power armor set right in the center of the main yard, along side 3 Power Armor Stations. The only challenge to grabbing this power armor is the amount of super mutants in the area. There are turrets in the guard towers to offer support, if you have the materials to repair them. Head over to the Eastern Regional Penitentiary page for a more in depth look of the area so you are prepared for the fight.

The Crosshair Power Armor

At this raider camp in the far Northwest of the Toxic Valley above the Hemlock Holes, there's a small sheltered area near a tower, and left against the rocks you may find Raider Power Armor stashed here.

Solomon's Pond Power Armor

Solomon's Pond includes a small farmhouse and pond in the central area of the Savage Divide, East of the Whitesprings Resort. Look for a large water pump at the edge of the pond and you may find Power Armor at the Power Armor station here.

Johnson's Acre Power Armor

The location known as Johnson's Acre is a quiet shack on the far southeast edge of the Savage Divide overlooking the Cranberry Bog. Look for a large rocky peak next to the house to find a Raider Power Armor left abandoned overlooking the valley below.

Ripper Alley Power Armor

Ripper Alley is a small raider camp located along the road south of the West Tek Research Center in the Savage Divide. Head into the camp and look along the makeshift fortifications by the cave and you might find Power Armor waiting here.

Firebase LT Power Armor

The Firebase LT is one of the small broken military camps at the northern edge of the Cranberry Bog. You may be able to find unused Power Armor standing at the edge of the camp by a large tent.

Fallout 76 Top 5 Best POWER ARMOR In The Game! (Best Power Armor Locations Guide)

Fallout 76 power armor: the best locations to find it fast

Finding some Fallout 76 power armor locations is probably one of the big early aspirations in the game. The iconic armor is high on everyone's wish list and getting a full set will mean visiting numerous power armor locations - you get a leg here, an arm there and, with multiple variants to build, it'll take a while before you get a complete lot.

We're not crazy enough to try and find them all though. The spawns aren't always guaranteed and not always in easy to reach locations - ironically you need power armor sometimes to, um, find power armor. Instead we've focused on the most likely, easy to reach options you can rinse out in search of parts. All these armor sets should be in open, low level areas and if any locks or hacking is involved it's only a level one problem.

As we hinted at earlier, Fallout 76 power armor spawns aren't always guaranteed. They will always appear in specific locations, just not all the time. Plus anyone on the map could have taken it before you arrived. Because of that you'll have to visit and revisit areas, maybe quitting out to find a new server if you get really unlucky. Over time you'll find all the legs, arms and other bits you need to assemble a full set. It is possible to craft stuff eventually but in the early stages you'll have to find it.

You'll also need fusion cores to run your Fallout 76 power armor. These can usually be found in the power generators you often find near armor on the Fallout 76 map. If these yellow machines are lit up, there's a power core for you to take.

For more details read on to find out everything you need to know about finding Fallout 76 power armor and power cores, as well the different level constraints different types have.

You’ll find Fallout 76 power armor scattered around the map, apparently in a mix of regular and random locations (check our Fallout 76 power armor location map below for more on that). Finding a set however is only the start of your mecha-suit journey as there’s more to things here than just finding metal legs and putting them on.

When you first find some Fallout 76 power armor you’ll have to strip off all the actual armor to leave a bare frame before you can get in it. This is because while there’s no level limitation on the frame, there will be on the armor pieces that equip on it, so the arms, legs, chest and helmet. The level restrictions break down as follows:

  • Raider Power Armor - level 15+
  • T-45 Power Armor - level 25+
  • T-51 Power Armor - level 30+
  • T-60 Power Armor - level 40+
  • X-01 Power Armor - level 50

There’s also a new form of excavator armor that boosts resources when mining. That's crafted and unlocked as part of a mission called Miner Miracles that you can only access at level 25 so it's not a good starter option.

So reiterate, you can wear the frame at any level, but you will need to be the appropriate level to equip any of the actual armor pieces on it. Even a bare frame has bonuses however, increasing strength, boosting all forms of damage resistance and making you immune to falling damage. You will however need a fusion core to power it, without one you won’t be able to run, use power attacks or aim with VATs. From what we’ve seen so far fusion cores can be found in generators that often appear near power armor locations and, if you see one, it’s likely worth checking to see if there’s some armor nearby.

So, when you first find some power armor you’ll need to take all the bits off (by storing them in your inventory) before you get in it. When you leave you’ll be able to ‘collect’ it which will add it to your apparel inventory. It’ll also be collected automatically if you leave the area, disconnect or enough time passes, so you don’t have to worry about losing it. As we understand the current system you can have as many sets you like but only ‘bind’ to one that then can’t be used (/stolen) by anyone else.

Fallout 76 power armor map locations

So far we’ve discovered 15 Fallout 76 power armor locations of varying authenticity based on our own discoveries and that of the Fallout 76 community. It looks like they don’t always appear in a known location, although it’s not clear whether that’s due to someone else taking them first or because they’re randomly spawned. The yellow frame that supports them does seem to be constant though, so if you find one of those maybe try fast travelling away and back again to see if it respawns. It also looks like standalone suits of power armor can also appear in more random locations around the map without a stand. It’s possible that a better luck stat might help you there.

This is a work in process for the time being as we find, add and confirm more Fallout 76 power locations to the map (and feel free to add any you find in the comments below). For the time being these are locations where Fallout 76 power armor has been found so far.

1 Striker Row
The Ash Heap maybe isn't the best place to head to straight away as you'll need breathing protection and probably a half decent level to survive. But if you can make it there's some power armor out in the open in a rock alcove at Striker Row near some road barriers. There's also some in a Red Rockets station near by.

2 Nuka-Cola plant
You can’t really miss the Nuka-Cola plant once you get near it because the building is the shape of a giant bottle. Head south/south west of Vault 76 and you should find it near a fork in the river. Once inside (you might need to pick a lock) find the basement and look for a big room with a yellow crane/bulldozer type machine. You should find some power armor in the corner.

3 Point Pleasant
You might head Point Pleasant’s way to check out the Mothman Museum but while you’re there you can also grab some power armor. Look for a bridge in town, if you can find the church you should be near it - aim for the 'M' of the Mothman sign on the map and look for a green pharmacy. With the pharmacy on your left head up the stairs on your left and you should see a building with a hole smashed in the wall. Head through the hole and when you come out the other side take the stairs to the roof immediately on your left. You should see a wooden path other the top of the bridge, head over it and take the right hand fork you encounter about half way. Look down to your right as you reach the next rooftop and you should see some power armor near a red sofa.

4  WV Lumber Co
In the far north west of the map, near the river, you’ll find the WV Lumber Co. It’s a lumber Mill full of Super Mutants, so minus points. But there’s power armor, so every cloud.

5 Hornwright Industrial Mining Company
In Charlestown, south of Vault 76 near a river junction, you should be able to pick up a mission called The Motherlode involving a beacon that will take you to some power armor. It’s not a quick mission, involving getting keycards and completing an exam on a terminal but you’ll find some power armor at the bottom of some stairs along the way.

6 Unmarked cave
Head way north, directly above Vault 76 and look for an unmarked cave at a location called The Crosshair. There’s Raider Power armor inside.

7Aaronholdt Homestead
North, and a touch west of Vault 73, you’ll find a farm called the Aaronholdt Homestead. There’s a shed near several grain silos with a power generator outside (grab the core) and in there you’ll find some power armor waiting. You'll need to find the key if you can't pick it open, which is on a nearby body.

8 Moundsville Penitentiary, in the prison yard
There are a lot of Super Mutants around Moundsville Penitentiary so maybe not a place to hit up early on. When you can handle it, blast your way through the hole in the wall around the back and head for the building in the centre of the yard.

9 Morgantown Train Yard
Near MorganTown, east of Vault 76, you'll find a train yard. On the western side there's a watch tower and between the two warehouses in front of it you should find a green army train carriage. Inside you'll find some power armor.

10 Silo shed north of Billing Homestead
Directly north of the Nuka-Cola plant you’ll find the Billing Homestead, and in the northern part of that you’ll find some grain silos and a shed. Check the shed for some power armor.

11 Camp Venture
Find camp Venture in the south east of the map and you should find some power armor In the yard.

12 Watoga
Near the big tower in Watoga, in the south east of the map, you’ll find a crashed vertibird and signs of a fight. Right by the vertibird you’ll find some power armor on the floor. There's also some to find on the roof of a nearby emergency building.

13 Drop Site V9
In the far, far south east you’ll find a place called Drop Site V9. There’s some power armor in there, and in Survey Camp Alpha just to the west.

14 Clarksberg
Near Wavy Willard’s Water Park, a little ways south of it, you’ll find Clarksberg. It’s a small town and full of angry robots, apparently the only survivors of a human/machine labour dispute. Look for a tall building with a fire escape on the side that doesn’t reach the ground. Head behind it and you’ll find a barricade with “Man Before Machine” written on it and some stairs up. Follow that roof around to the right and you reach the fire escape. The power armor will be in the next floor up.

15 Belching Betty
You can find some power armor near Bernie, around the shaft at Burning Mine on the Eastern side of Ash Heap.

16 Arktos Pharma
When you reach the area look for the Arktos Pharma garage on the left hand side. Use the stairs and walkways over the buses to reach the hole in the ceiling and upper floors. The power armour is locked in a room behind a computer terminal with a hacking level of 0.

17 Wade Airport 1
At Wade airport you should find a small aircraft hangar at the northern end of the runway by the flight tower. There’s some power armor in the hanger.

18 Wade Airport 2
Look for the blue trailer at the southern end of the runway which has some power armor inside. You’ll need a lockpick skill level 2 to open the door but other than that it’s yours for the taking.

19 Silva Homestead
At the Silca Homestead look for a round barn with a red tractor inside. There should be some power armor in a power armor frame at the back of the building. You might find some radroaches in there but they're low level.

20 Black Bear Lodge
hen you get to Black Bear Lodge you should see a small barn with a fallen tree on it to the west of the bigger building. The power armor’s in there, just as you go in the door.

21 Poseidon Energy Plant WV-06
There are few buildings at the Poseidon Energy Plant but look for the biggest one with the blue pipes and these army vehicles outside three sets of doors. Go through any of the doors and straight ahead until you see these stairs going down. Follow the corridor around until you see a room with a workbench in and some power armor at the back.

  • Middle Mountain Cabins - between dish and hotel
  • Sunnytop Ski Lanes - house with green roof, in basement

Where to Get Power Armor in Fallout 76

There are a few places to pick up Power Armor in Fallout 76, but let’s start with one of the closest. If you head east of Vault 76, you’ll come across a location called Morgantown Warehouse. What you’re looking for is a train car with USA written on the side. Inside is parts of a T-45 Power Armor. It’s not complete, but is enough to get you started at a low level. For some additional Fallout 76 Power Armor locations, check out the list below:

  • Aaronholdt Homestead
  • Point Pleasant
  • Nuka-Cola Processing Plant
  • Arktos Pharma

There's some T-45 Power Armor located in Morgantown. It's just to the west and slightly south of the Morgantown icon. We've embedded an image below.

Fallout 76 Morgantown Airport Power Armor

Another set of Power armor can be found at the Morgantown Airport. Enter the main terminal, and head towards the eastern end of the ground floor. There are two power armor racks attached to the wall, where the armor can spawn in your game.

Fallout 76 Power Armor Level Requirements

There are a few different things you’ll need to keep in mind while searching for Power Armor in Fallout 76. There are four different types of Power armor, each requiring a different level to operate. For the T-45 you’ll need to be level 25. For T-51 you’ll need to be at least level 30, and for T-60 you must be level 40. At the time of writing it is unknown what level you’ll need to be to control the X-01. If you come across Power Armor with parts you cannot use, transfer them into your inventory, then equip what’s left.

Can Other Players Steal Your Power Armor?

Given that there’s only a finite number of Power Armor sets in each Fallout 76 server, you may be wondering whether or not other players can steal from you. Luckily, once you put on a suit of Power Armor for the first time, it’s yours. Other players will be unable to select your Power Armor.

Fallout 76 Top 5 Best POWER ARMOR In The Game! (Best Power Armor Locations Guide)

Where to find power armor in Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is here, and as you head out of the Vault to explore the wasteland of West Virginia, you're going to want to find yourself a power armor frame as soon as you can. Power armor is a staple for kicking in the door in any Fallout game, giving you extra damage protection and letting you carry more loot.

Here's how power armor works in Fallout 76 and where to find it.

The wasteland’s most functional fashion

Like many of Fallout 76’s features, finding and equipping power armor feels mostly similar to Fallout 4. The best change to the way that power armor works is that once you’ve claimed a frame, it cannot be taken without your permission. You can step into any empty power armor frame you find, and it will become exclusively yours. When you're not wearing it, you can carry it with you in your inventory.

That means neither your friends nor griefers in Fallout 76’s online world are going to be joyriding in your newly-painted T-51 armor (the way settlers in Fallout 4 had a habit of doing) and definitely no more “Dude, where’s my power armor?”

If you reach a location and the armor isn't there, that means someone else probably grabbed it first. It will respawn, but it may take some time and you may need to leave and return later to claim it.

Here are the some locations where you can find power armor, followed by some tips on how to use it.

Morgantown Train Yard

Difficulty level: A few ghoulish guards

The Morgantown Train Yard is a short walk straight East from Vault 76, making this one of the closest locations you can grab some power armor quickly. It’s close to the low level areas of the game so other players are more likely to have gotten to it first, so you may have to wait a while for it to respawn.

The train car you’re looking for, as show in the video above, is East of the central tower of the train yard. It has USA painted on the side, sits directly next to one of the large buildings, and has a makeshift ramp leading into the train car.

Morgantown Warehouse

Difficulty level: Watch your step

Another power armor suit can be found in a two-story warehouse in Morgantown just West of a factory called Mama Dolce’s. (If you can't see the video embedded above, it's also here on YouTube). The factory will show up on your map, but the warehouse with the armor will not. This is another easy find, so long as the armor is waiting when you arrive, and it doesn’t require a quest to get to.

Beware of the traps like proximity mines and spikes guarding the warehouse entrances, and keep in mind, those traps respawn just like the armor does, so they may be reactivated if you leave and return a short while later.

Aaronholdt Homestead

Difficulty level: Keen eyes win a prize

Aaronholdt Homestead is about equidistant from Vault 76 as the Morgantown Train Yard, North and a bit West of Vault 76 (the Ferris wheel shown on your map is a good landmark), making this another possibly easy snag. It’s also in the opposite direction of the early quests leading towards Flatwoods, meaning other players may be less likely to stumble across it before you.

South of the homestead itself is a group of three silos with a large shed. You’ll need a key to the shed where the suit of armor is waiting. You can grab the key off the corpse of one Lowell Aaronholdt lying dead in a bathtub in a small lean-to east of the shed on a small hill.

Moundsville Penitentiary

Difficulty level: A short walk (and a lot of super mutants)

Moundsville Penitentiary is just slightly Northeast of Vault 76 and straight North of the Morgantown Train Yard. In the center of the penitentiary is a yellow building with a power armor suit inside. A few users on Reddit have confirmed seeing this set but we have yet to locate any screenshots (we'll add them when we find it ourselves). There are lots of super mutants occupying the prison, so bring some friends.

Seneca Gang Camp

Difficulty level: Not a mountain, but a molehill

This scrappy little fort by the side of the road doesn't look like much, and it's only guarded by a few mole miners (though mind the one with the missile launcher). It barely even seems worth investigating, but inside the ramshackle barricades there's a frame and a few piece of armor waiting to be nabbed.

You'll find the camp just east of Route 63. It's south of the observatory, which is a good landmark to aim for on your map.

Pleasant Valley Cabins

Difficulty level: Heavy metal conflict

There's nothing pleasant about Pleasant Valley, at least not in Fallout 76. The entire area is swarming with mole miners and vertibots engaged in all-out war. If you fight your way through the massive skirmish, however, you'll find what looks like a Thunderdome-esque battle arena. At its center stands a power armor frame.

The frame I found had raider armor pieces, which were level 15, so it's not a bad spot to look for pieces you can use earlier rather than later. Just bring lots of ammo.

Difficulty level: These boots are made for walking

If you’re itching for a challenge like the players in the video above, you may find yourself in the far southeast of the map in a city called Watoga. It’s full of hostile protectrons and Mr. Handys that you’ll need to clear out. In the town square beneath the huge three-legged monument, in front of a building labeled “AMS” in neon letters, there’s a power armor suit waiting for you.

There’s an interesting quest in the city of Watoga but you shouldn’t need to engage with it at all if you really just want to grab the armor and run. This power armor location is less a matter of convenience and more just goes to show that if you’re stumbling around having an adventure as you’re meant to in Fallout, you’ll probably trip right over a set of power armor eventually.

Power armor tips

As in Fallout 4, power armor frames in Fallout 76 are independent of the armor pieces that can be equipped to the frame. Most often, you’ll come across a power armor frame with a helmet, leg pieces, or other armor already equipped. Early on, those pieces will probably be higher level than you are capable of using.

You can pull each armor piece off the stationary power suit the same way you pull other items out of containers. Once the frame is empty, you’re able to use it no matter your level. Even without armored sections, the base frame for a power armor suit will still provide benefits. It increases your radiation resistance, melee damage, and carry capacity.

Also like in Fallout 4, power armor runs on fusion cores that can be found around the world in generators or sometimes in general loot. Although fusion cores seem to last longer than in Fallout 4, you may still find yourself running empty eventually. You can continue to use power armor without a core, but you can't sprint or use VATS without a working core. To exit your armor, just step out (by holding down the E key) and then collect the frame into your inventory. It can also be stored in your camp stash if you don’t feel like toting around the extra 10 pounds of weight.
