Warzone best sniper rifles - secure one-hit eliminations from afar
The best Warzone sniper rifles might not dominate long range meta in quite the way they used to, but range still rules in Verdansk 84. A Warzone no glint sniper option is still a really useful thing to call in if you're fighting over a distance. It's personal choice whether you go for hundreds of meters of range, likely with a risky telltale glint, or whether you swap out the scope for something a little closer, but still with plenty of range. Either way, many engagements in Warzone can be tipped into you favor with some range and you'll want a few good options for that eventuality.
Many of the best snipers in Warzone function well, but following the recent Black Ops Cold War integration, it can be overwhelming when deciding which long range weapons to utilize. This can make it tough to select the best sniper in the game, but fortunately we’re here to help. In this guide, we’ll go through the best snipers Warzone has to offer, while highlighting many rifles that work across various playstyles.
1. SP-R 208 marksman rifle
Kicking things off is the SP-R 208, a marksman rifle with a ton of power and mobility. Because of this, you’ll find it ideal for more aggressive play styles as opposed to setting up shop in one spot. In fact, you can completely deck this weapon out to serve as a tactical rifle more so than a sniper.
However, the SP-R deals high amounts of damage, making it ideal for dishing out one-hit kills in Warzone. The weapon’s only downside is that it’s a bit slower than some of the other marksman rifles, putting it somewhere between a semi-auto rifle and a slower sniper rifle in terms of speed. But depending on your play style, this might be exactly what you’re looking for.
2. HDR Sniper rifle
Next up is a weapon that feels almost like the antithesis of the SP-R. That’s right, the HDR is a much slower weapon that is best used when you’re holding down a position, taking shots from super long distances. Because it’s slower, you should absolutely pair it with a secondary weapon that works well at medium to close range.
But aside from that, the HDR is a tremendous rifle that works particularly well during longer ranged engagements. Obviously, that’s where snipers excel, but the HDR is the king of range and bullet velocity. You’ll have a much easier time taking out your opponents at hundreds of meters out when compared to some of the other snipers. If you’re looking to pull off shots from across the map, the HDR should be your go-to, as it has one of the highest bullet velocities out of any sniper in the game.
3. LW3 - Tundra sniper rifle
The LW3 - Tundra used to be terrible, but following recent updates, it now rivals the HDR in more ways than one. Of course, the HDR is a top tier weapon when used at extremely long range, but the Tundra is similar, with a few added benefits. For starters, it has a slightly faster fire rate, along with being a bit easier to control.
When looking at bullet velocity, the HDR is still slightly better, but again, whether this matters will depend on playstyle. Most players don’t go for eliminations at 500+ meters, so the difference in bullet velocity might not make much of a difference to you.
In short, the Tundra is one of the best snipers in terms of raw power and easily stacks up against the HDR. The other thing we should mention is that certain Cold War weapon attachments negate having sniper glint, giving them an edge over Modern Warfare firearms. Use the Tundra if you’re looking for a slightly more mobile and faster version of the HDR.

4. Rytec AMR sniper rifle
The Rytec AMR is a great choice for those who plan on partaking in more aggressive long range firefights. Whereas the HDR is much better for slower deliberate encounters, the Rytec is best when taking out multiple enemies in fast succession. It has a tremendously fast rate of fire that mirrors something like the Dragonov, without sacrificing power.
Sure, it’s nowhere near as great as the HDR at long distances, but if you can pull off a headshot, you can secure the elimination regardless of your distance from the target. What’s neat about the Rytec is that you can equip explosive rounds to it that deal splash damage if they land close enough to your target. Overall, this should be your weapon of choice if you aren’t as confident with your shots.
5. AX-50 sniper rifle
Some players might find the HDR a bit difficult to use. That’s because it’s slow and is a little bit harder to control than you might expect. If that’s the case, you should try the AX-50. This rifle works similarly to the HDR, but has a slightly faster fire rate, better mobility, and arguably more manageable recoil (this is personal preference, of course).
Since it doesn’t have the bullet velocity of the HDR, you’ll find that it doesn’t work as well in long range engagements at hundreds of meters away. But it’s perfectly viable from afar, especially if you land those upper chest or headshots. In short, this is a much more user friendly version of the HDR with slight downsides to balance it out.
6. Pelington 703 sniper rifle
Now that some of the game’s attachments have been buffed (like the Wrapped Suppressor), the Pelington 703 is finally usable in Warzone. In fact, if you deck it out properly, it rivals even the best snipers the game has to offer. Sadly, the Pelington is often overlooked due to having a rough start after the Cold War integration.
The best way to describe this weapon is like a mix between a Tundra and a Kar98k, offering fast ADS speeds, high damage, and relatively decent bullet velocity. Though unlike the Kar98k, the Pelington can secure eliminations much better from longer ranges, making it slightly more versatile, despite being a tad slower. In short, this is the weapon to use if you want more speed than the HDR, while having better range than something like the Kar98k or SP-R.
7. Kar98k marksman rifle
The Kar98k takes the best features of the SP-R 208 and improves them in many ways, giving you a mobile sniper with a lot of power. It works similarly, best used in fast paced situations, though with some added speed. Since it’s so lightweight, players opt to use this weapon as a great compliment to an SMG or other close to medium range firearm.
Though you will notice that the Kar98k does ever-so-slightly less damage than the SP-R, which balances things out. In short, the Kar98 is more mobile but slightly less powerful than the SP-R, so you’ll want to choose the weapon best suited to your playstyle. You won’t be getting long range kills across the map, but in closer range engagements, few rifles are as good as the Kar98k.
So long as you can get a chest or headshot with the Kar98, it’ll feel just like one of the heavier snipers anyway (in terms of damage), so do your best to hit those extremities for maximum results.
As you can see, there are a variety of choices for snipers in Warzone that adhere to many playstyles. Want something for aggressive run and gunning? The Kar98k should be your first choice. Want to set up shop and take shots from hundreds of meters across the map? Go with the HDR. Or if you’re looking for something in between, the Tundra or Pelington are fantastic choices. The point is that you should now have enough information to choose a sniper that matches how you play.

Best Sniper in Warzone: a guide to the best Sniper Rifles in Call of Duty: Warzone
Want to know the best Sniper Rifle in Warzone? Sniper Rifles dominate Warzone and its sprawling, rooftop-dotted landscape. No matter how much the meta shifts, the power of one-shot headshots means they will always have a role. So the question is: which sniper rifle do you use for that perfect headshot?
Below we'll walk you through our picks for the best Sniper Rifle in Warzone, along with detailed overviews and stats on each weapon in this essential gun class.
Best Sniper in Warzone
Currently, the best sniper rifle in Warzone is the Swiss K31. This bolt-action sniper really has it all. The Swiss K31 has great ADS speed, and the highest chest shot damage in the Sniper Rifle category. There are plenty of viable options, but you can’t go wrong with the Swiss K31.
Here's the best Sniper Rifle in Warzone:
- Swiss K31
- LW3 - Tundra
- Rytec AMR
Swiss K31 - Best Sniper Rifle in Warzone
The Swiss K31 is unparalleled at mid-range sniping. Its closest statistical competitor is really the Kar98k, which Warzone classifies as a Marksman rifle. The Kar98k has much faster ADS speed, but the Swiss K31 hits harder to the chest, making it a touch more forgiving.
Relative to other true Sniper Rifles the K31 has lower bullet velocity, but it’s not something you’ll feel outside of extreme distances. If you enjoy posting up on rooftops and mountains with boundless sightlines there are better choices, but for general use in the unpredictable landscape of Battle Royale, the Swiss K31 is the best Sniper Rifle in Warzone.
If you want to take over the game with a bolt-action, check out our guide to the best Swiss K31 loadout.
The ZRG is a hard-hitting bolt-action rifle with the highest bullet velocity in the game. It also has better ADS speed, rate of fire, and chest damage than the old velocity king, the HDR. You still won’t want to get caught up close with a ZRG out, but it’s the best sniper rifle at long distances where bullet velocity really matters. It's going to take much longer to snap to targets than a Swiss K31, but your shots will reach their destination twice as fast. At extreme distances against moving targes, the ZRG is unbeatable.
Have a look at our ZRG 20mm loadout and you won’t be disappointed.
LW3 - Tundra
The LW3 Tundra is a good Sniper Rifle that doesn’t really stand out. It has bullet velocity on par with the HDR with much snappier ADS speed, but it's still not enough to distinguish it from the ZRG. It’s close enough that you’re rarely going to notice the difference. Being very similar to other good weapons isn’t a bad thing though; the LW3 won’t hold you back if it’s your Sniper Rifle of choice.
Go give our LW3 Tundra Warzone loadout a look if you’re interested!
If you prefer semi-automatic weapons, the M82 is the best choice right now. It’s one of only two semi-automatic weapons that can one-shot headshot fully armored players. It doesn’t have great ADS speed and the bullet velocity sits somewhere between the quicker bolt-actions and heftier long-range behemoths like the ZRG and HDR, but semi-auto fire makes this weapon a lot more forgiving within its effective range. When your aim is a bit low and you end up with a body hit, getting that second shot out faster will save the fight. If you want the Warzone equivalent of the classic Barret .50 from the old Modern Warfare games, the M82 is the weapon for you.
Before Cold War, the HDR was the unchallenged king of maximum range sniping. It’s still good in that role, but the ZRG just does the job better. Still, the HDR will do great at long range. The handling is a bit painful, but it’s no trouble at all to pick out long-distance headshots once you’re aimed. Plus this thing just sounds so cool I can’t help but dig it back out every once in a while. Never feel bad about opting for an HDR; it's within striking distance of its superiors.
With our ideal HDR loadout, you too can relive the early days of Warzone.
The AX-50 offers a smoother and faster ride than its marginally bigger sibling, the HDR. It's a more forgiving rifle, simply because if you miss your shot, you can fire another faster than the HDR. The AX-50’s bullet velocity could never quite keep up with the HDR though, and it’s nowhere close to the ZRG. What niche it used to have has really just been eaten up by competitors at this point. Pick the AX-50 for the aesthetics, but not for competition.
The Pellington is a quick-handling Sniper Rifle, but it’s just entirely overshadowed by the Swiss K31. It has lower body-shot damage, lower bullet velocity, and virtually identical ADS speed. There just isn’t any way you can build the Pellington to beat the Swiss K31 at any role.
If you just like the look and feel of the Pelington and want to give it a go, check out our guide to the best Pelington loadout in Warzone.
The Rytec has a fire rate edge over the M82 but otherwise can’t keep up. It has a worse chest damage multiplier, ADS speed, and bullet velocity. The anti-vehicle incendiary rounds are kind of cool, but if you need to deal with trucks it’s usually easier to just use a launcher. But hey, sometimes you just want to use a big gun with exploding bullets. We understand.
The Dragunov has a better rate of fire and bullet velocity than its semi-automatic brethren, but its damage is much, much worse. It’s really more in line with the semi-automatic Marksman Rifles, and those have never been particularly strong. You could use the Dragunov as a mid-range Sniper if you just really wanted to, but it leaves us with a familiar question; why not just use something that can one-shot your enemies?

Warzone best weapons in Season 6: Our best AR, sniper rifle, shotgun, SMG and LMG weapon recommendations
Learning the best guns in Warzone is difficult with an ever-shifting meta and the introduction of weapons from new Call of Duty games - such as Cold War: Black Ops in late 2020 - shaking up the roster.
There's a huge number of Warzone weapons now available, and though every has their favourites, there are definitely winners and losers among the list.
Choosing the right weapon can give you a huge advantage over other players, and if you then learn to control their recoil and offset their idiosyncrasies, then you'll be unstoppable.
We've been out there in Verdansk messing around with everything we could get our hands on, allowing us to present the best weapons in Warzone, category by category.
On this page:
What are the best new guns in Warzone after the Season 6 update?
It used to be that you could just visit our list of the best guns in Modern Warfare to also learn what's the best in Warzone, but times have changed. Warzone has become its own beast at this point, and Season 3 even went ahead and ditched the presence of Modern Warfare weapons entirely as loot (don't worry, your loadouts still count!).
The update in December 2020, which reset the Season count in Warzone back to 1, marked a new foundation for Warzone with an array of additions and new weapon classes from the latest Call of Duty game, Black Ops: Cold War.
Season 2 Reloaded was present all the way from late February to April. Then, Season 3 officially kicked things off with several balance updates and new weapons, following with a 80s focused mid-season update with Season 3 Reloaded, bringing new updates to both old and new favourites.
The regular Verdansk map got nuked at the end of Season 2, and players were teleported back to 1984. This brought a new gulag as well as several new points of interest. With Season 4 the map remains fairly similar, although some strange appearances have started taking place, such as satellites falling from the sky.
As players continue unraveling everything that has changed post this new season update, there have been some interesting changes already. The Dead Silence field upgrade is under consideration for changes soon, while the controversial Roze skin has been nerfed. Oh, and there is also a deadly door, just FYI.
In terms of weapons we have seen interesting changes around barrels, as well as the addition of a strangely powerful Nail Gun and a new LMG called MG 82 that immediately jumped to the meta. As expected, developer Raven went ahead and nerfed it a couple days after launch. The C58 also appeared during the first half of the season.
Jumping into Season 4 Reloaded, tonnes of weapons received changes in what was called "the biggest balance update in the history of Warzone" by the developer. In addition, the OTs 9 introduced itself as the latest SMG to join the roster. The Blueprint Blitz event also took place during the week before the new season launch.
Speaking of which, Season 5 showed up after the myriad of changes that took place in Season 4 Reloaded with a few more additions, including the EM2, TEC-9, Marshal and RAAL MG. In addition, events like the Battle of Verdansk were also present.
As Call of Duty: Vanguard draws near, Season 5 Reloaded didn't make for a big of an impact. The main focus is on Mobile Broadcast Stations and the conclusion of The Numbers event, which includes the Sai melee weapon as a reward. That being said, there were significant tweaks and updates to the weapons roster, affecting popular choices like the Krig 6.
Season 6 is upon us, and with it the closure of the Adler's storyline before Vanguard. New weapon additions include the Grav, .410 Ironhide and the Battle Axe melee weapon. In season, the Hammer and Sickle melee weapon joins the roster, while the LAMA SMG is a reward from The Haunting Event, just in time for Halloween.
Best AR in Warzone recommendation
Best weapon recommendation: AK-47 (Cold War)
How to unlock the C58: Reach Player Level 7
After undergoing several changes across Season 3 and Season 4, the CR-56 AMAX was finally pushed down the ladder. It remained as a decent option for some time afterwards, mind you, but others have taken the reign since.
During Season 4 reloaded, the C58 was the popular choice and our personal favourite. This assault rifle didn't cause much stride during the first week or so of the season, but had found itself in the top place ever since.
However, Season 6 brought yet more balance tweaks to it, increasing its recoil on top of previous changes during Season 5. As a result, the AK-47 (Cold War) is now the best option if you're looking for firepower that excels at range.

Best Sniper Rifle in Warzone recommendation
Best weapon recommendation: Swiss K31
How to unlock the Swiss K31: Get two Headshot kills in 15 different completed matches using any sniper rifle (in Black Ops: Cold War or Warzone)
Sniper Rifles have slowly but surely been receiving a better treatment overall from Raven, all the way from bullet velocity to the way attachments work. Past favourites such as the ZRG 20mm or the LW3 Tundra are still good options, but a particular top choice of ours, the Swiss K31, continues to be on the spotlight.
With the right attachments, this is as fast as you can get with a sniper rifle in Warzone at the moment. ADS speed, rate of fire, and just overall specs make this an excellent option to consider for your loadouts.
If you want to get the most out of this sniper rifle, see our best Swiss K31 loadout recommendation.
Best Marksman Rifle in Warzone recommendation
Best weapon recommendation: KAR98K
How to unlock the KAR98K: Reach Player Level 33 (in Modern Warfare or Warzone)
The Marksman Rifles can often end up feeling a bit like a diet Sniper Rifle, but thanks to constant tweaks throughout Warzone's existence the KAR87K can almost rival them. Even now in Season 2, the weapon hasn't received any nerfs, so it still retains the same range, damage, and accuracy from the first Season, as well as its mobility.
We highly recommend opting for this if you're used to Sniper Rifles, since this weapon works best when you're aiming for headshots. Its biggest advantage comes down to its ADS speed (aim down sight), which is unparalleled compared to Snipers.
Best Tactical Rifle in Warzone recommendation
Best weapon recommendation: M16
How to unlock the M16: Reach Player Level 10 (in Black Ops: Cold War or Warzone)
The AUG withheld its place throughout most of the duration of Season 2, but the Season 3 balance patch increased its time between bursts by 33 per cent, as well as lowering its neck damage multiplier. The M16, whilst also affected by similar changes, doesn't see a drastic change in the battlefield.
The time between bursts was only increased by 10 per cent in comparison, and it remains super fast still. Paired with its short time to kill, the M16 is the best tactical rifle during the start of the season. Just make sure to increase its magazine capacity and focus on attachments that decrease its overall ADS time and sprint speed to further enhance its qualities.
If you want to get the most out of the weapon, our best M16 loadout recommendation can help.
Best Shotgun in Warzone recommendation
Best weapon recommendation: JAK-12
How to unlock the JAK-12: Get three Hipfire Kills using Shotguns in seven different matches
Shotguns have been all over the place in terms of preference for Warzone. The Gallo was a reliable option in the previous season, but it can't quite compare to the Streetsweeper and the JAK-12. Amongst these two, we always opt for the lethal Hipfire of the JAK.
If you ask us, shotguns in Warzone are at their best when you don't have to worry about aiming down the sight to land a headshot, especially when you have to stop mid-sprint to defend yourself.
Of course, it would be wise to pair this weapon with the AUG or the LC10, just to cover different bases depending on the situation.
But when it comes to close quarter encounters, this is the one for you.
Best SMG in Warzone recommendation
Best weapon recommendation: Bullfrog
How to unlock the Bullfrog: Reach Player Level 43
The PPSh-41 introduced itself as a daunting SMG from the get-go, mixing rapid fire with the possibility to have a huge ammo mag that supported its nature. With not too much to worry about reloading and a decent hip fire as a cool bonus, it had a promising prospect, and retained its spot for a while.
While it was surpassed by the MAC-10 during the vast majority of Season 4 and the first half of Season 5, the Bullfrog has regained its spot. When paired up with the right attachments, the significant firepower in both close to mid ranges and decent mag size by default make for a powerhouse of a weapon.
If you want to get the most out of this SMG, see our best Bullfrog loadout recommendation.
Such as assault rifles, there is a variety of top choices to experiment with at the moment, including the PPSh-41 and MAC-10. But as of now, the Bullfrog stands at the top.
Best LMG in Warzone recommendation
Best weapon recommendation: MG 82
How to unlock the MG 82: Kill 3 or more enemies without reloading across 15 different completed matches using LMGs
While the Stoner 63 used to be our primary choice during most of Season 4, the MG 82 still can't be beaten.
This first introduced as an absolute powerhouse with a massive mag, quick fire rate and moderate recoil for a weapon of its category, but got nerfed in the span of days.
While it has been a target for tweaks during more occasions, it still maintains most of what makes it a powerhouse. Recoil has been the most affected aspect, but overall, you will continue to see the MG 82 fairly often during Season 5.
If you want to get the most out of the weapon, our best MG 82 loadout recommendation can help.
Best Launcher in Warzone recommendation
Best weapon recommendation: Strela-P (Modern Warfare)
How to unlock the Strela-P: Reach Player Level 17 (in Black Ops: Cold War or Warzone)
We know launchers might be a bit much for Warzone, especially when you could be using that loadout room for literally any other weapon. But if you end up in a situation where you have to choose one, we recommend the Strela-P.
The Strela is great at firing vehicles (or any unfortunate enemy who happens to be in the way of that rocket), and it has a particular high velocity that you don't usually find in other launchers. Amidst the other options from this category, the Strela is certainly the best one.

Best Melee weapon in Warzone recommendation
Best weapon recommendation: Kali Sticks (Modern Warfare)
How to unlock the Kali Sticks: Using the Knife, get 3 kills while sliding in 15 different matches (in Modern Warfare or Warzone)
Melee weapons wouldn't usually be our first choice when it comes to Warzone weaponry, but we aren't here to judge. If you want to see how far you can go with this category, we highly recommend carrying the Kali Sticks with you as a secondary option for your loadout.
You will most likely need two hits instead of one to take down an enemy, but the Kali Sticks provide a fast and reliable way to do so thanks to the range they have. Just don't blame us if your squadmates get mad at you for choosing this over a fire weapon. At the very least, you'll be bringing the best sticks available to a gunfight.
