Home Instead Employee Reviews

I love assisting elderly people, but the company is not all that.

Caregiver for Elderly (Current Employee) - Wichita, KS - October 21, 2021

Home Instead expects you to work as if you have no life outside of work, they will call you, text you, and email you non stop to pick up extra shifts. There are just now barely any benefits, and even then, it’s the bottom of the basket, cheapest thing they could come up with, not even worth using. No PTO, no sick pay, only bonuses if you accept the very last minute shifts, no maternity leave, nothing. They would like you to practically work 24/7 and then act astounded when you call in occasionally, or run just a little bit late on occasion as well, despite working 50 hours a week. The amount of stuff you actually wind up doing during your shifts does NOT amount to the low pay you get either.

Pros

Overtime hours if needed.

Cons

Low pay, no PTO, no useful health insurance.

Care Worker in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

Helpful management

I have been working with home Insted for 2 I really enjoyed working with the clients I have.at first i had problems with the hours they were giving me but by time passed I been offered enough hours according to my availability.

CareGiver in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire

Ok if that’s what you want

Not actually employed at Home instead now but fell foul of the strict policies and was suspended.
Management have to follow the rules and decided my “ caring actions” overstepped their governance.
I did make a mistake but I held my hands up
I was not intending on doing anything incorrectly but found that they had to act.
My feelings towards my franchise are therefore clouded.

Home Care Assistant in Beverley

Fabulous company to work for

Supportive management, supportive colleagues. Good work life balance. Flexible shifts meaning you can work around other commitments ie family or second jobs.
The management are always contactable and always willing to offer support if needed.

Business Development Manager in Norwich, Norfolk

Home Instead are a great company to work for

I started working for home instead in 2019 and it has been an enjoyable place to work. There is continual support around me, we have a great team of CAREGivers and we are well looked after.

Caregiver in Cheshire west and cheshire

A very supportive care company

I started work for home instead Chester branch earlier this year. My first impression was that all the office staff were very kind and all took time out of their busy day to introduced themselves. Working for home instead Chester had given me my work, life balance back. I have worked for 4 other care companies but this one is different. They genuinely care about staff and clients alike. There is always, always somebody at the end of the phone to answer queries. Or just to chat if you have a personal problem. They match carers with clients interests, they really do care. I wouldn’t hesitate to have home instead caregivers look after one of my own family.

Home Instead Employee Reviews

Appalling place to work but made out they are the best Care Company !

Carer (Former Employee) - Wiltshire - 23 July 2021

I’m sorry to say , despite having 20 years in the Caring Industry, if your face doesn’t fit into the ‘ culture and ethos ‘ of the said franchise you might as well NOT bother !! It all sounds amazing, interview was great , the carrot is dangling , it’s all a bit too good to be true, then they drop you and I have to say I wouldn’t treat an animal / any person the way they’ve treated me. Due to the franchise set up , there’s virtually nothing to protect a new employee, which is totally wrong and not ethical. Be warned, all can be going along smoothly, then if your face doesn’t fit after the initial training in the office , you’re simply dumped / thrown away like a piece of rubbish ! Doesn’t add up in this current Covid climate , with so many vulnerable people needing help with Care. Please check your payment to attend training as none of us were told , not surprisingly as it was only £120 for 24 hours over 4 days and not much to cover any travelling required to attend said training ! Out of us new starters, only 2 had work after the training. Please be very cautious as there’s so many other more professional companies out there ! Agree with another persons review , the office don’t care about any stress or anxiety they cause to you and I can totally see how that can quickly make a new starter Ill. I had to get my situation documented by the Gp as I was very concerned about the length the office were going to to basically Chuck me away on the rubbish heap , as clear my face didn’t fit and they didn’t have sufficient hours to go round. One message to this company , please don’t forget -

Home Heath Aid in Columbus, GA

You can pretty much set your own hours

I really enjoyed taking care of my clients, if you are lucky you will have set clients and you will definitely create a bond with them. The hardest thing is if they pass away it’s like loosing a family member.

Caregiver for Elderly in Wichita, KS

I love assisting elderly people, but the company is not all that.

Previous employee in Township of Hamilton, NJ

Poor Management (HAMILTON NJ)

Stay away from this location (Hamilton, NJ) inexperienced and PRETENTIOUS people managing pretending they have the work experience. No stability, no structure, lots of turn over due to the fact mentioned. If you want to be used and abused, this is the perfect place for you.

Primary Caregiver in Dayton, OH

It’s a great place to work

I really enjoyed working at Home Instead, the workers were really nice, the secretary was always very helpful, the staff was great. The job itself was grateful, you meet wonderful people, and it felt great to be a blessing to so many people.

Home Health Aide in Johnson City, TN

Love my clients but management was horrible

If your sick you still have to work if you have kids they would not care because they don’t understand they don’t have kids it’s sad because you will love the ones you care for so it best to fine more better pay doing the same thing because they pay is only 9.00 honestly you can’t survive on only 9.00 but if you just enjoy helping people don’t have a family or bills this is the job for you

How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at Home Instead? What are the steps along the way?

August 20, 2019

I applied online, received a call 2 days later with interview set up for early the next week. I interviewed on that Monday, was offered job with no set pay due to the difference in private/county/nursing home jobs differ. I attended 2 day orientation the following Monday (my choice b/c i was offered earlier orientation). started that week as well. Given a great client and pay slightly higher due to private pay. I already had my level 2 background screening, I had my current CPR, and had my insurance and drivers license handy when I interviewed. Drug screen given at office 1st day of orientation. I was informed they would do random drug screens (no problem for me). That was pretty much it. Pay is middle of month and last day. No direct deposit, you come into office to pick up checks. Given 1 shirt and offered used for a minimal cost and could purchase new additional shirts I would have to pay for.
