17 Fun Places to Camp in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

NOTE*** The content on this page may contain affiliate links, we may make a commission. And, as an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.  More information: disclosure page.

When planning our road trip to Coeur d’Alene Idaho, we researched all the places to camp near town.  This article has been written based on our review of the campgrounds in Coeur d’Alene, some of which we have camped at for up to a week at a time.  Our favorite spots may surprise you. Plus, I have a couple of secret places on this list (that we have actually stayed at)

Coeur d’Alene sits on the shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene, the second largest lake in North Idaho. The lake is surrounded by sandy beaches, blue skies, and forested mountains. Your family will enjoy swimming, bird watching, hiking trails, boating, fishing spots, cycling trails and so much more!

Campgrounds in Coeur d’Alene include national forests, state parks, county lands, and nearby year-round mountain resorts. It is an ideal place to enjoy a great camping experience, surrounded by Idaho’s nature.

We have camped in tents and RVs in and near Coeur d’Alene.  We stayed a week in a campground right in town our travel trailer.  The last trip, I rented a full-size van and camped with 5 kids in our make-shift campervan.  ( I tried to find the perfect small motorhome to rent, but because RV rentals in the area are so popular, I had to get creative and rent a 12-passenger van to van camp.)

My other option was to have a travel trailer delivered to a campsite which would have been similar to our travel trailer at home.  However, we wanted a little more freedom to camp on our way home to Colorado too.

Pro tip:  You can find RV rentals on the peer to peer networks RVshare and Outdoorsy right in Coeur d’Alene.  Campers do go fast though, so make sure to reserve early!

Check out RVs for rent in Coeur dAlene here on Outdoorsy. As part of the network we have a discount for your first RV rental – click here for $50 off.

This list of places to camp is longer than many of the lists you will find.  We have family in the area and have spent a lot of time digging up the best places to stay right in town and camping near CDA.

Make sure to bookmark our other travel resources for camping and visiting Coeur d’Alene Idaho.

Camp Coeur d’Alene

Camp Coeur d’Alene is a campground with water access to the lake. It is situated right on the shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene, and just 15 minutes from town. This RV park, camp, and cabin space offer luxury cabin camping. (We would like to stay here because it looks dreamy but sells out)

Its RV spaces include full hookups and space for large campers. The tent spots are separated from the RV park, they are right next to the water, and with plenty of trees for shade. The camp offers full-service sites, free Wi-Fi, 20/30/50 amp hookups, separated tent area, laundry, hot showers, pet stations, heated pool, playgrounds, hiking, and pet walking roads, free firewood, and more.

Wolf Lodge Camping

Wolf Lodge Camping is a people-oriented camping site, east of Lake Coeur d’Alene, The owners, Tom and Yvonne, help every visitor relax in their friendly and beautiful environment. RV sites are spacious, shaded, with long-level pull-troughs, and private backyards.

  • Location: 12329 E Frontage Rd, Coeur d’Alene, ID

Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park

We stumbled upon this campground by calling the local county office.  This may be the best-kept secret in North Idaho.  This is a beautiful grassy campground right in the center of town.  Each space has a large paved area to park an RV, full hookups, and a spacious grassy area.  However, there are no shared facilities or bathrooms so you must be fully contained.

We stayed here for a week in our 35-foot travel trailer and enjoyed the 4H horse demonstrations and dog shows.  My only complaint is that the rates have been increasing as more people have discovered my secret place.

  • Location 482 E Dalton Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815

Beauty Creek Campground

Beauty Creek Campground is located along with the peaceful Beauty Creek, half-mile southeast from Lake Coeur d’Alene.  It is nestled in Idaho Panhandle National Forest, in a narrow valley surrounded by forest.

This location has been featured in RVshare blog here to help you decide where to stay when you rent an RV.

Ravenwood RV Resort

Ravenwood RV Resort is a new family-friendly campground close to the amusement park. They offer daily shuttles to Silverwood Theme Park and Boulder Beach Water Park.

Great camping site for young couples, and children to be entertained, Ravenwood RV Resort offers new, and modern facilities, and a high level of comfort. We have not stayed here but met others who have enjoyed being so close to the theme park.

The kids and I camped here in a double site with grandma.  We slept in tents and our rental van. We only stayed 3 days, which was not nearly enough time to enjoy all the activities this place has to offer.

I had planned to rent an RV to be delivered here.  In fact, this is the travel trailer that sleeps 8 and you could have delivered to any campsite. Check availability here.

They feature daily expeditions on the lake. Harrison RV and tent camping offer picnic tables, grills, and a shelter.

Crystal Gold Mine

Although this campground is actually about an hour away in the mountains near Coeur d’Alene, I had to add it to the list.  This campground is located at the site of an authentic 1880’s underground gold mine. The Crystal Gold Mine is off I90 near Kellogg, Idaho.  It was one of the first hard rock mines in the Silver Valley and you can tour it.

We stayed at this campground in our travel trailer.  The next day some friends came to meet us, and we all toured the mine.  After the tour, you can pan for gold in the troughs and actually find real gold.

In conclusion, with Coeur d’Alene lake and so many other lakes in North Idaho you can find a beautiful campground for your family vacation.  Surrounded by forests, wildlife, and mountains it offers fantastic views, and great outdoor experiences just about anywhere.

We highly suggest renting an RV for your vacation to Coeur d’Alene. Even if you won an RV already, many people choose not to tow it across the country. Since the peer-to-peer networks have RV owners renting out RVs in every corner of the US and Canada, you will find one that is perfect for you. But first, read our tips on Renting an RV that is Perfect for Your Vacation
