ARK Creature Color Regions (Vanilla)
For one reason or another, we occasionally find ourselves needing to change the colors of our dinosaurs. Whether this is to replace a dino lost through a bug, or just because in your own personal game you want that perfect dinosaur, or to get that dinosaur you saw and tried to tame, only for it to die.

Whatever the reason, I have not been able to find a good comprehensive list of what region goes where on which dino, so I set up to make a guide for it. ( Note: You have to be Admin on the server, or in Singleplayer, with cheats enabled in order to do this)

Creatures in ARK have color layers ranging from 0-5 (so up to 6 in reality).

I set each number with a specific color, and then changed each type of creature with those commands to show exactly where each region covers.

The colors I used are thus:

0 - RED
1- WHITE
2 - YELLOW
3 - GREEN
4 - BLUE
5 - CYAN

NOTE: If you see PURPLE, that is because the BLUE and RED colors overlap and the layer is slightly transparent =)

To change the color of your dinosaur, here is a handy color generator that makes it quick and simple:

http://jdimensional.com/ark/dino-color-generator/

To change colors: cheat SetTargetDinoColor X Y , where X is the region 0-5 and Y is the color ID number

Wild

Utahraptor prime is an incredibly aggressive subspecies of Utahraptor found on the Island. It tends to travel in small hunting packs, attacking smaller prey with its sharp teeth and enlarged foreclaws. When hunting in packs, the pack leader can vocalize a signal that acts as a battle cry. Be prepared to run or fight if you hear the call of the Utahraptor! The pack will repeat the calls and attack with much greater intensity. One of the faster creatures on the island, Utahraptor often uses their pack numbers to their advantage by swarming around their prey before it can react. The large curved talon on the second toe of this sub-species seems particularly suited for dealing significant damage. Utahraptor prime usually kill its prey with numerous slashing and biting attacks in rapid sequence.

Domesticated

What the Utahraptor lacks in size, it makes up for in ingenuity. Rather than chase down smaller creatures, Utahraptor will pounce and pin its prey to the ground rather than chasing it around. Despite its normally aggressive nature, Utahraptors have become one of the primary combat mounts for roaming bands of raiders, as well as scouts for larger collectives. Those who ride Utahraptor claim they are difficult to tame, but then fiercely loyal. As a carnivore, once tamed they require a steady stream of meat to sustain.

~ Helena

Behavior[]

Raptors will attack dinosaurs and players on sight. They often attack with a "run-and-bite" strategy and can pounce at smaller targets than itself or of equal size holding the target down making them unable to move, making it difficult to defend against an onslaught. A dangerous predator to encounter in the dark, Raptors are nearly impossible to fend off when attacking in packs and aided by darkness. The Raptors often attack from different directions, using this method to take down prey while avoiding damage. Due to their high speed and ability to vocalize for pack buff (if in a pack of 3 or more), they are hard to flee from during a player's early levels, and it is advised to make for deep water (or just deep enough water that you can be just out of reach) if attempting to flee an attack or run behind a door and immediately shut it.

Appearance[]

The Raptor is a relatively small dinosaur with feathers on the head, back, tail, and on the backs of the arms. They come in a variety of colors, although green and reddish brown seem to be the most common, while the rarest color variation is black.

Color Scheme and Regions[]

This section displays the Raptor's natural colors and regions. For demonstration, the regions below are colored red over an albino Raptor. The colored squares shown underneath each region's description are the colors that the Raptor will randomly spawn with to provide an overall range of its natural color scheme. Hover your cursor over a color to display its name and ID.

This information can be used to alter the Raptor's regions by entering in the cheat console. For instance, would color the Raptor's "body accent" magenta.

ARK Raptor

The Raptor is a small and fast land dinosaur which is very deadly, especially to those who are traveling without tames.

What the raptor lacks in size, it makes up when it is with its own kind since Raptors work together to take down their targets and can cause a lot of damage when taken lightly.

Raptors can be found wandering around certain areas and will attempt to jump their prey unsuspectedly the moment they notice them.

Survivors that approach the Raptor will come fast to face with this aggressive dinosaur as the moment that it sees you it will charge towards you and attempt to pounce and kill you.

A tamed Raptor can be a valuable companion when starting out and can later be good for disabling enemies that rare on foot or that attack your base.

Dossier

AKRAR-2

Dossier Summary

The Utahraptor Prime is a vicious dinosaur from the early cretaceous period which has a carnivorous diet and is very aggressive to survivors and small dinosaurs, attacking them on sight.

It is stated that this dino is a subspecies of Utahraptor which was first seen on The Island and is found in other maps, attempting to chase down and kill its prey on sight.

Although the Utahraptor is not as big as most dinosaurs, it makes up for it in size and intelligence, capable of chasing down other dinosaurs and survivors while also using its speed and ability to disable those that are smaller than it.

Utahraptors, also known simply as Raptors will attempt to claw and bite at its victims continuously until dead.

Abilities

1) Pounce

AKRAR-3

The raptor has the ability to pounce on its prey which will allow it to disable small creatures as well as survivors.

While the Raptor is on top of its prey, it can freely attack its victim repeatedly for a period of time, allowing it to kill those unfortunate enough to be alone.

Default Controls:

  • RMB (for PC)
  • LT (for Xbox)
  • L2 (for PS4)

2) Pack Bonus (Passive)

AKRAR-4

Having multiple raptors will give them a pack bonus when they are together, appointing the highest level raptor as the alpha.

The alpha raptor will have a glowing area on its stomach signifying that it is the alpha among the group which gives it a special ability allowing it to activate a pack buff.

3) Pack Buff

AKRAR-5

The alpha of the pack vocalizes and the others follow which gives them all a boost in movement speed, attack speed and damage resistance for 45 seconds.

This buff works great when a fight is about to begin or when you are hunting down or running away from enemies.

Being group hunters this ability can really increase the overall performance of the pack and allow raptors to easily take down larger predators.

Default Controls:

  • C (for PC)
  • Hold Right Analog (for Xbox)
  • Hold Right Analog (for PS4)

Uses

Scout

Raptors are incredibly fast and can outrun almost any dinosaur that exists which makes them both good for scouting around areas by land.

Disabler

Using its pounce ability, Raptors can pin down prey to attack them repeatedly or to hold them down for their owners to deal with.

Pack Fighters

When there are multiple Raptors together, they become stronger and can be used to take down larger enemies and even guard bases.

How To Tame Raptor?

AKRAR-6

Raptors can easily be tamed as they will run towards you, making them easy to use a bola to hold them down.

After the Raptor has been disabled with a bola, you can shoot at it with a tranquilizing weapon or club it from behind so it can’t attack you.

Overview

AKRAR-21

While not the easiest to tame when starting out, Raptors provide survivors with a huge benefit due to the speed they have when traveling as well as the ability to fend off smaller threats such as hostile survivors and wild creatures.

The Raptor alone may prove useful and can aid survivors well but when a tribe has a pack of Raptors, they are capable of dealing a lot of damage.

Raptors may be known as a good choice to get you around quickly with its speed and ability to jump over obstacles but in the event of a small fight they can also prove quite useful.
