If you have a Hobby Lobby they used to carry those pots in all sizes.

I am looking for terra cotta pots 8" to 12" without a rim around the top. Any ideas?

The rim is there for a construction/durability purpose. What is your need, plan? The thinner edge is more likely to chip without a rim, so manufacturers probably have no desire to make them.

Clay Pots Have Become Harder to Find . . .

Remember those terra cotta clay pots that plants and flowers used to come in? Florists used to sell them for pennies and they were used for growing, not showing, potted plants.

Because of the boom in the decorative plant business and a change in the public's taste, these pots now have become a prized item among home horticulturists, and their prices, except for the most careful shopper, have soared.

A check of plant stores, florists and garden centers in the metropolitan area indicated that the stores that did sell clay pots and saucers could barely keep up with the current demand.

“There has been a tremendous increase in demand for the clay pots,” according to Jack Bernbaum of Brown‐ Gold Inc., a Paterson, N.J., wholesaler that supplies many plant shops in the area.

“For one thing the wholesale florists don't ship in clay pots anymore. But the real trend goes back to the back ‐ to ‐ nature movement and the “plant revolution.” Everyone wants everything to be real, to be natural. Plastic just doesn't sell anymore.”

Mr. Bernbaum went on to explain that when plastic pots became popular with the growers about fifteen years ago many of the clay pot manufacturers went out of business. There are, he said, only about a half dozen such companies left in the country.

“Actually plastic is more practical,” he said. “It is lighter, nonbreakable, and takes up less space. But I believe that the clay is better for the plants.”

Others believe that, too, and that's another reason why clay pots are in such demand today. Many home growers were warned not to leave their plants in the plastic pots they came in because the plastic didn't let the plant “breathe.”

“Essentially it's a matter of preference,” Fred McGourty, a horticulturist at New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, said. “The plants in the plastic pots require less watering. It is not true that the clay pots are superior. We use the plastic pots here.”

In any case, why don't the manufacturers take advantage of the current trend and step up production of the clay pots?

E. W. Ritter Sons has manufactured clay pots for generations and the head of the company, George Ritter, says that the factories are running at full capacity now.

Can't Get Extra Fuel

“We couldn't expand now even if we wanted to,” he said. “We use natural gas and the power company can't give us any more fuel now. We produce about 175,000 items a day and I suppose we could push that up to 250,000 but we just can't get the fuel we would need to fire the clay.”

Despite the current squeeze the shortage may soon be over because many wholesalers have discovered Italy, West Germany, and Mexico as sources for the coveted terra cotta pots. According to one dealer, most of the pots now sold in the United States are probably from the foreign market.

But even if the shortage subsidies the consumer will still have to cope with the higher prices. Robert Berg, of the Farm and Garden Nursery in Manhattan, estimated that the price of clay pots and saucers had tripled in the past year.

“This increase is related to the general economy and I understand that costs—like fuel and transportation—have risen drastically for the manufacturer,” he said.

Prices Vary Greatly

Whatever the reasons, prices have indeed gone up and they vary drastically from place to place. Right now most of the chain stores, such as Woolworth's and Lamston's, seem to be carrying the pots in sizes that range from 3 inches in diameter to 14 inches. And their prices are among the lowest.

At the Woolworth's at First Avenue and 72d Street in Manhattan, for example, the 3‐inch pot sells for 49 cents, the 4‐inch for 69 cents, the 7‐inch for $1.99 and so on.

Just blocks away, however, at the 72d Street Florist, the 3‐inch clay pots are 75 cents, the 4‐inch pots $1.50 and the 8‐inch pots $3.50.

But the Plant Shed, a chain of plant “supermarkets” in the metropolitan area, seems to be underselling even the variety stores. At the Plant Shed on East 72d Street in Manhattan the clay pots start at 19 cents for the 3‐inch size and go up to $9.99 for the I4‐inch ones.

As in the city, prices for the clay pots vary from place to place in the suburban areas but the price differences don't seem to be as extreme as they are in Manhattan. And some of the garden centers sell used clay pots for considerably less than the new ones.

At the Turf N' Tree Garden Center in West Islip, for example, the prices range from 69 cents for the 4‐inch pots up to $6.00 for the larg er 10‐inch ones. The 4‐inch pots at Father Nature's Garden Center in Bay Shore are 10 cents cheaper and their largest pot is 16 inches in diameter and sells for $12.50.

The Shaw Nurseries & Garden Center in Babylon, L. I., is among those that sells used clay pots. At Shaw's most of these pots are small—about 2½ inches —and start at 12 cents per pot.

I was so excited that I felt my juices slowly begin to drain onto the clitoris, and then onto the pubis. an eternity before someone's hands painfully slapped my ass. -Wow, you fucking bitch, and your cunt is good, said the unknown from behind and somehow rudely, pressed his palm to.

The crotch and began to rub hard up and down.
